Goodbye Disney Club, Hello Disney Plus (Part 2)
Well, after a really hard couple weeks of work, time for some updates on how the last week of Disney Club went down :-)
Friday 25 June 2021

Before the final weekend of Disney Club, the original hosts of the block, Nut Sakawat and Nan Orawat were interviewed by the morning entertainment news show, during which they even changed the LED screens in the BG to match the final look of Disney Club...

And just like old times, they even read some letters on air :-) (Even showing off some drawings in the letters, too) They also revealed what they've been up to lately: Nut is part of the ground welcoming staff at Suvarnabhumi airport for Thai Airways, while Nan works at personnel development and training for SCB Bank :-)

Offscreen photos from a promo for the finale airing on Sunday, advertising both the Big City Greens episode and a lookback at the show's 29 year run :-)

Here's some advertising for Disney Plus at a branch of AIS :-)

I managed to drag myself out of bed at 7:05am, just in time to check out a little bit of the first of the two cartoons to air on Saturday: Disney Junior's Mira: Royal Detective, whose CG rendering really benefits from the HD presentation :-) Today she's dealing with a missing doll and a moving day meddler... (an aside: seems like Disney Junior shows are generally only delivering episode titles in voiceover these days :-\)

But the real main attraction (for me anyway) was a special videocall interview between Nann and James (two of the current hosts) with three of the former hosts:

Bogus (really, that's his nickname; here's a whole half-hour video about his time working there)

Mew (now a member of girl megagroup BNK48)

and PP, in which they talked about their experiences working for the show...

with several nice bits of footage from their days working on the show (Mew even bragged about visiting Hong Kong Disneyland in several seasons) And at the end of the videocall interview, they even helped link into the second half of Mira :-)
The other show to air today was the TV series version of Big Hero 6, but, despite having recapped the original movie back in the day (maybe something to free from the Photobucket blight someday?), I've never really bothered with the series :-\ However, I did manage to dig up other segments from today's show, featuring more messages from former hosts :-)

I managed to come to around 6:45am, and managed to catch part of the intro segment, featuring what was probably the second-most hyped up of the special appearances: Pop idol/former presenter Peck Palitchoke talking about his time working on the show...

before heading into Big City Greens, featuring the arrival of Paul Scheer's Chip (who'll appear again for 2 episodes some time after this one, though obviously not on Disney Club), and Cricket trying to sell Skull Slimmers :-)

I'm probably the only person in the country watching this who fully gets the reference they're making here :-)
(Meanwhile, the gag that most people are laughing at here reminds me of an old joke with a punchline of "Don't tell my owner, he'll make me answer the phone" :-))

And between the two BCG shorts (well, the 2nd one itself got split into two), Nann and James performed an interview with Nut and Nan about how they got their start on the show (and apparently, such was their chemistry that some viewers mistakenly thought they were siblings [!]), even talking about the letters they received for the letter-reading segment (their favorite letters: those that included photos of the letter-writer taking part in a Disney Club-organized activity, usually watching a new Disney film in the cinema) and of course, they even helped introduce the 2nd short, showing that they still got it :-)
After the end of the 2nd short, the final goodbye in-studio was relatively low-key with James and Nann announcing the end of Disney Club and giving a quick mention of the new cartoon block replacing it next week, followed by a quick goodbye from all the current hosts plus Nut and Nan... before launching into to a montage of the show's 29 years on air :-) (I may not have been as much of a viewer as before, but at least I can say I was there to see it off :-))

Midday entertainment news mentioned the end of Disney Club, and how it got a hashtag #GoodbyeDisneyClub trending on Twitter :-) Such is how popular/beloved Disney Club was :-) (Meanwhile, Tero Entertainment, a company long-associated with one of Channel 7's biggest competition until earlier this year, but has been cozying up with Channel 7 as of late, will apparently be behind the new cartoon block taking over from Disney)
Wednesday 30 June 2021

Today marks the launch of Disney Plus in Thailand, and to celebrate, Workpoint Channel (and One HD) aired a Hello Disney Plus special promoting the new service, including special musical performances and quick messages from the stars of some of Disney Plus's offerings (which in our region, include a selection of Asian movies) :-)

Instead of proper ad breaks, the special was punctuated with celebs answering trivia about Disney (and Star Wars and Marvel as well), and participating in a have-you-ever? Here's Peck saying that yes, he has fallen in love with a character: in his case, Simba :-)
And of course, he was also part of the finale performance, a duet with Palmy featuring a medley of Disney songs :-)
(It has also come to my attention that Peck also dubbed Peter Pan in the Return to Neverland sequel, and Wade, Kim Possible's tech support :-))

Not directly related, but Vee Raweerot and Sof Sophitsakorn, the hosts for Disney Club's replacement (and a gaggle of costumed players) got a slot on not just the morning entertainment news, but also the live afternoon entertainment chatshow (the latter also a Tero production)

Endboard from the promo for the new block: Unlike with Disney Club, they're not advertising specific episodes in the promos, and according to this Tweet they don't even air the shows' opening sequences (which with anime, are certainly an art in their own right :-)) And just in case any viewers think the title (literally translating to "Weekend Popular Cartoons", though Bugaboo, Channel 7's own streaming site, calls its playlist for the show the marginally-better "Cartoon Hits Weekend") doesn't necessarily limit them to anime, the logo (with a Japanese fish flag) would probably disarm them of that notion :-\
And Disney Club provided one last surprise from beyond the figurative grave... One of the prizes in today's lottery draw went to all tickets ending in 29 :-)
