3x06: Layla's Choice / The Mermaid Queen

When Tressa frees her mom from imprisonment, there's much more dialog than there originally was:

Unedited:
Ligea: My dear Tressa, I was afraid I'd never see you again.
Tressa: Well, you can thank the fairies and Princess Layla. They risked their lives to come down here. They helped me. And all I've done in return is act like a coward.
Ligea: (backs off)
Tressa: (hacks bars off)
Ligea: That's my girl. (comes out to hug Tressa)
Tressa: (gives mom crown) This is yours mother. Now go. Get away from here.
Ligea: (puts on crown)

Edited:
Ligea: You came to rescue me honey. I'm so proud of you.
Tressa: Don't be. It's Layla and the fairies that you should be proud of. Me? I don't know how to be brave mom. But Bloom said that I should just go for it, that I should just try.
Ligea: I think Bloom is right dear. (backs off) Start now. Be brave.
Tressa: (hacks bars off)
Ligea: Well done Tressa. That's my girl. Thank you. (comes out to hug Tressa) I'm proud of you.
Tressa: (over a shot of Mom) Happy to be of service mom. (gives Mom crown) With you back in the throne, maybe we can defeat Baltor. (as Mom puts on crown) And this time I'll be at your side.

Actually, the 4Kids version puts quite a bit of emphasis on Tressa's guilt for not fighting alongside the others; whereas she also brings it up while they're swimming into the coral, the original has her only talking about the trench itself:

Unedited:
Bloom: I can't see the bottom. Can you?
Tressa: No, because there is none. At least that's what the legend of the trench says.
Bloom: Tell me, Tressa. Are you scared by any of this?
Tressa: (nods to say yes, cut to wideshot)

Edited:
Tressa (over original silence): I can't believe I'm the heir to the mermaid throne and I let all this happen.
Bloom: So, what scares you so much?

Tressa: I've always been scared. Scared of everything since I was little.

Bloom: I know it sounds simple, but maybe you just need to (Tressa nods, cut mid-line to wideshot) go for it one time. Just bust out of your old pattern.

Tressa: Maybe.

In one of his last reviews for the show, Frank commented that the only reason Tressa gets the Winx's help to free Ligea in the first place is ultimately because Tressa ran away from fighting Baltor, the very thing she's ashamed of (in both versions), which I discussed with TF, noting something along the lines of "TV shows will always value bravery and treat running away as cowardice, and therefore bad, and parents wouldn't agree with any show that argued otherwise"... TF replied: "Actually, I think parents would like a show that said cowardice can sometimes be good. Otherwise, kids would be running around trying to stop robberies and such. There's a time to be brave and a time to be smart."

(Then again, the original has been guilty of trying to push bravery over cowardice, even when the latter is more pragmatic)

Meanwhile in the Alfea dorm, while Stella is working on her latest "change the pixies to the Winx" plan, 4Kids has changed the text on the slip of paper on the floor next to Digit and Tune from 1+1=2 (with the 2 written more like a question mark) to a more complex equation starting with W2 featuring random symbols (and the change has also been made to the wide panning shot, and the replaced paper doesn't quite seamlessly move with the shot like the original does)

The Winx blast the cave roof while being chased by a Kraken. We get a Nick alteration:

Unedited and Edited by 4Kids: Flo: "Uh, Tecna, the cave collapsing, was that part of your plan?" Tec: "Well no, but I never said my plan was perfect."

Edited by Nick: Flo: "I like living dangerously, but this is pushing it!" Tec: "Well, let's keep pushing it! We're almost out!"
