Finally: WinxTalk Podcast #11
Delayed several days due to some "issues", but finally got the thing up. With a hitch though: Instead of covering the entire season so far, you'll have to contend with just the first arc (i.e., the first 3 1/2 episodes' worth of storyline). Hope it was worth the wait... If it is, just let me know, but if it's not, at least there's the 2nd half of my recap coming up next podcast, no?

Feed, as usual, is here.
It's a mega-recap of the first7 3 1/2 eps of season 3 this week.

(Over the first 20 or so seconds of Brenda Lee's "Jingle Bell Rock")
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from SpiderBraids at the WinxTalk Podcast. On this edition, we recap the first arc of the current season. That's right, the whole thing. Plus, we'll have the latest Winx news. So, let's spread the holiday cheer around.
So, let's run it down. While Stella and the gang were packing up for their semester break, a Sungram came for Stella.
[The Sungram]
Hooray for Sungrams. Meanwhile, the Trix, now no longer the single entity as we last saw them, were sent to prison. Again. This time, they were taken to an ice planet. Of course, one of the villains is herself an ice witch, resulting in this great line...
[Icy: "Try to freeze my heart? Don't they know my heart's already so cold nothing can freeze it? Idiots"]
Yeah, I totally agree with that statement there Icy.
Back at Alfea, Stella decided to figure out dad's little surprise...
[Stella: "I bet that they're getting back together! I bet that's what the surprise announcement's going to be!"]
And so, off they went to shop. While at a pizzeria, the Winx ran into some nasty lady who stole the pizza Stella had ordered. Ladies and gentlemen, Chimera.
[Chimera insults the Winx, especially Flora]
Yipes. And I thought only Cloud Tower witches had a nasty attitude towards Alfea fairies... But that chance meeting wouldn't be their only run-in with Chimera...
[Chimera decides to get the dress Stella wants]
And we all know that Stella is SERIOUS about the clothes she wants to wear...
[Bloom: "They're attacking us over a DRESS???" Stella: "Right! And we're not going to TAKE IT!"]
This is from a girl who refuses to just split her clothes randomly for visiting her separated parents. In the end however, Chimera not only won this battle, but also got to rub it in to Stella's face.
[Saleslady: "That's strange, she told me she was princess of Solaria" Stella: "HUH??!" Bloom: "Are you sure?" SL: "Well, not yet. But she told me she's going to be soon"]
That little exchange there, on top of the whole "I'm having a princess ball" thing from earlier, should have AT LEAST hinted to Bloom that King Radius' surprise was going to involve her instead of mom. Instead, Bloom said later that day at the beach...
[Bloom: "Stel! You're having a princess ball! Your parents are getting back together, and we're on semester break!"]
Also, Musa got her hair spelled.
[Stella compliments Musa's hair]
Her hairdo change has prompted much criticism, although not one person, other than myself, has mentioned that she herself said that her short pigtails were "all the rage at Wizardpalooza" back in the last season opener. But now they're all long and stuff. Sheesh.
Anyways, the witches ran into another fellow prisoner Baltor, and they escaped to Tides, Layla's homeland, to get some minions, prompting another good line:
[Stormy: "How do all these guys get minions?!" Icy: "I dunno, but we gotta get some too!"]
This also caused a big wave at the beach, forcing the Winx and the Specialists to evacuate everyone. And that wasn't all...
[Sirene tells Layla to go to Tides, and alone to boot]
Over on Tides, everything was a mess to say the least.
[Layla: "Something bad is happening under the sea of Andros"]
And indeed it was. Baltor was making minions out of mermaids. Plus, he decided to take a sidetrip to Solaria. More on that later. But first, let's lighten up the mood a bit...
[Bloom: "My birthday's not until December"]
Okay, now back to the storyline. Bloom and Stella went to Solaria ahead of the others, and Stella gave Bloom a tour of her crib. However, we only got to see this bit...
[Bloom and Stella in the Hall of the Universe]
Later on, while Bloom and Stella were checking out their presents, Chimera snooped on the two. Her mom, Countess Cassandra, didn't take a shine to that. Unfortunately for a show that has a habit of breaking from stereotype, and making us love it for that, that didn't stop Cassandra from turning out to be evil like every other stepmom in the history of fantasy.
[Cassandra: "That Stella girl is so dreadful, one can't help but hate her"]
Memo to Iginio: We didn't NEED an evil stepmom. We would have rather had a stepmom who was genuinely in love with Radius. The bratty daughter was enough. Not that it would have mattered anyway... more on that later.
Stella continued to begrudge Chimera for taking her dress, but if there's one thing that Stella hates more than some nasty lady stealing her dress, it's someone wanting to offer her her dress.
[Stella: "It's the dress thief!!!" From that comment, Chimera decides to ruin Stella's party]
Why bother Chimera? Since your mom is going to marry her dad, you needn't do a darn thing to ruin her party. And it's not like that it doesn't deserve to be ruined anyway...
Chimera had a good reason to bring Stella down a notch. Of course, since Baltor was making his sidetrip there, he decided to drop in and make a little bargain with her and mom.
[Baltor meets the two]
And that's why it wouldn't have mattered if Cassandra had been nice, because Baltor would have just evil-ified her anyway. At the party, out of the five Specialists, only two, Brandon and Sky, showed up. Flora was disappointed...
[Flora: "I can't believe Helia's ship broke down"]
You're not the only one who was let down, Flora. Besides the other Specialists, Mirta was on the guest list, and she has her fans too. Ultimately though, it was only a minor detail in the grand scheme of things, as Radius made his surprise announcement.
[Radius announces this marriage to Cassandra]
Well, it was a surprise alright. Problem is, it didn't live up to the other billing of making Stella happy.
[Stella: "This is the worst thing my father could have ever done to me!!"]
To add insult to injury, Cassandra and her daughter decided to strike while Stella was dancing with her dad.
[Chimera: "As pretty as you are is how hideous you will become" followed by Cassandra: "That monster is not your daughter"]
Chimera turning Stella into a frog monster... yay. Cassandra using mind control on her dad... nay. This would lead to a killer chase scene, where the guards tried to capture Stella, or at least get her killed, leading to, well, only the most awesome cliffhanger in Winx history!
[Stella flies out of the window at the dove tower... Bloom follows]
We'll continue our recap after the news.
(News sting)
On December 9th, Winx scored 0.5 and a 3 share with a "Miss Magix" rerun. On December 16th, Winx scored its biggest ratings of the season with a 1.0 and 6 share, for a "Fire and Ice" rerun. These ratings numbers are from Cynopsis, which will be taking the rest of the year off.
If you ever wanted to design your own Winx fairy, Konami has just what you need. Pick from the styles they give you, set the colors, and voila. Instant Winx fairy. And you can make it your desktop wallpaper too. Check it out at www.konami-data.com/~kids/ .
According to the scheduling services, 4Kids will not resume the season in January, but will instead rerun from the season premiere onwards.
Michael Grant reports that there are Enchantix dolls in our near future. Check his site for details.
And that's news from the Winx world.
(News sting)
And now, back to the recap.
After a two week hiatus, Stella was feeling that she would have been better off dead than being saved by the other Winx. And the rain that the prospective gold-diggers had caused to fall on Solaria was draining their powers as well. While they were going through the Solarian forest and some secret passage to make their escape, Musa made two straight negative comments.
[Musa on Stella's comment about Brandon being shallow: "All guys are, Flo, it's just their nature"]
[Musa: "Narrow passageway + Plus sized fairy = Not good" Stella: "Plus sized fairy?!?"]
I know it would have been missing an opportunity not to make the 2nd comment, Musa, but still, please stop making comments like that. You're making me look like a freakin' SAINT here.
After all that was dealt with, the Winx and the Specialists returned to Alfea, where Knut got a bit flirty with Stella... Light entertainment time!
[Knut gives Stella some flower stems]
[Stella gives Knut some etiquette lessons]
Back to the plot. The Winx were determined to break the spell on Stella. They found something that could, but there were strings attached.
[Bloom reads about the Mirror of Truth]
Meanwhile, Flora decided to put a spell on Brandon to make it look to him nothing was wrong with Stella. Too many viewers called utter BS on that.
Anyhow, despite the possiblility that the Mirror of Truth might not work, they were determined to get there, even if it meant flying straight through an ice storm, setting up some major heroics from... Bloom?
[Bloom calls the hard dive]
But they still weren't out of the woods yet, as there were also a few griffins tailgating them. Flora, who had wanted to melt the ice they were flying through with her Solar Ivy attack just moments earlier, had second thoughts about attacking them.
[Flora: "Musa, please don't hurt them!" Musa: "Okay, then I'll just stun them!"]
[Flora: "But the mother is just trying to protect her babies" Bloom: "If we don't do something, she'll destroy OUR babies!"]
But the others certainly didn't have any reservations about kicking their butts, especially Tecna, who made this MONSTER shot from way downtown!
[Bloom: "Yeah, awesome aim, Tecna!" Sky: "Alright!!"]
The show went from having yet another awesome cliffhanger, to a very pathetic one, with Stella somehow falling off the Specialists' ship and finding herself hanging from dear life from a cliff. With that awful cliffhanger aside and dealt with, there was still one more issue: finding the "mirror" and making their case.
[The Winx approach the mirror spirits]
At the mirror, Brandon had something to say to Stella...
[Brandon explains that Flora's spell wore off on the ship]
Brandon asked the other Winx what they saw in Stella, and here's what they said...
[Tecna: "I see a totally honest person who always says what's on her mind" Flora: "Who's cheerful and upbeat and fun" Musa: "A kind of crazy fairy that always makes me laugh" Bloom: "And I see a best friend forever"]
Also, Brandon gave a gift to Stella. She had been in no mood to take it after hearing the bad news at the Princess' Ball, but now was a good time.
[Brandon gives her the compact... and Stella is herself again]
So, Stella was back to her real form. The form that she was meant to be in.
In our next podcast, we will recap the 2nd arc to date.
And that's it for this edition. Comments and suggestions are welcome at spiderbraids.livejournal.com , or the Winx Club group at Yahoo: tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/winx . We'll see you in a bit less than two weeks. Thanks for listening.
Behind the scenes:
I originally made this as a recap of the whole 7 eps so far, and I was under the impression that the season would resume after the new year, not start all over from the beginning. I had to quickly edit out the part where I said, "with the start of the 2nd part of the season" from the ending. Since the thing just wouldn't upload to dibidib, I then decided to split the thing into two.
The use of Jingle Bell Rock was a bit of necessity: I wasn't doing this podcast at university as usual. Therefore, I didn't have most of my resources.

Feed, as usual, is here.
It's a mega-recap of the first
