Happy belated new year from SpiderBraids at the WinxTalk Podcast. On this edition, the 2nd part of our recap of the season so far. Plus, we've got some exciting doll news as well.

And now, the 2nd part of the recap. The Winx had just undertaken a dangerous mission to restore Stella's looks, and returned to Alfea.

The new school year was beginning at Alfea, and there were a bunch of fresh faces.

[Musa meets Galatea, then Stella meets Nova and Nova give her the skinny from Solaria]

Also, there was a new power boost coming up, and while the Charmix seemed almost an afterthought to last season's storyline, this new power boost certainly didn't look like one.

[FG's Enchantix speech, with the only mention of Charmix at all this season]

Speaking of destruction, later that day, Layla was despondent about the mess on Tides, and she decided to get help from the others.

[Layla explains the Tides crisis, and the others decide to help]

So, with that, the Winx decided to go to Tides to straighten things out, except for Stella, who decided to stay behind to listen out for news from Solaria. Layla's parents weren't too willing to let the Winx deal with the situation there, and with good reason: Tides was infested with mermonsters trying to attack them.

While Bloom was pondering why she kept getting visions at the mere mention of Baltor, he had just given Icy a new power: Fire. Perfect for battling the fairy of fire with, right?

Except that it didn't exactly pan out that way, even though it was all set up nicely with Bloom saying:

["You'd think you'd understand the balance of power now, Icy" (shoots at Icy) "Whenever you face us, you lose"]

When it WASN'T followed by Bloom being all "Fire beats ice" and Icy making a reference to fighting fire with fire, some fans called more utter BS on that.

Anyways, despite the distinct lack of a fire-on-fire battle, and Darcy being uncharacteristically stupid, Baltor ended up taking away Layla's eyesight.

[Baltor: "If you don't like what you see, perhaps you should see nothing at all"]

We'll conclude our look back at the season so far after the news.

And now, news from the Winx world, with exciting news for doll collectors out there. Michael Grant has posted pictures of lots of exciting new Winx merchandise on his news page. Most importantly, we have official confirmation from Mattel that they are releasing dolls of the fairies in their new Enchantix forms under their new "Glam Magic" line this spring.

Besides Enchantix dolls, we also have brand new Pixie Flyers, which let you launch your favorite pixie from your wrist and see her glide, and three new Magic Makeovers, of Layla, Stella and Flora, to join Bloom in that line. For all the pictures, check out Michael's site at www.michaelsfavorites.com .

And that's news from the Winx world.

And now, the rest of the recap.

The Winx were despondent about Layla's blindness, but they weren't alone. Another Tides princess, Tressa, had been banking on Layla as well, to save her mother Ligea from a squid beast. But that wasn't her only issue...

[Tressa is "so ashamed of (her)self" for not fighting Baltor when all her friends did]

The idea that Tressa's lack of courage saved her from being turned into a mermonster was never brought up even once. In fact, it was quite the opposite.

[Tressa: "I can't believe I'm the heir to the mermaid throne and I let all this happen" Bloom: "So what scares you so much?" Tressa: "I've ALWAYS been scared. Scared of EVERYTHING since I was little" Bloom: "I know it sounds simple, but maybe you just need to go for it one time. Just bust out of your old pattern"]

[Tressa finds her mom and mentions Bloom's speech, and then frees her: "With you back on the throne, maybe we can defeat Baltor. And this time, I'll be by your side!"]

Anyways, the squid beast was quite the persistent motherbleeper, and even after it got its tentacles cut off and got hit on the head by the roof of a cave, it still managed to attack Ligea and force Layla to break her promise to use her healing staff on her blindness... and use it on the attacked Ligea instead.

[Layla realises she can use Ligea's healing staff on Ligea instead, and does so. She earns her Enchantix, but because of the sacrifice, complains: "Everything is still dark"]

Back at Alfea, Stella found out from Nova that major changes had been made to the Solarian royal registry, and decided to go kick the gold-diggers' butts. She had been using magic to pass off the pixies as the other Winx, and decided to turn Piff into herself, but that move ended up biting her in the butt when the Griz busted both Stellas while the real deal was looking for Amore. Although the Winx had good intentions to sneak out to Tides, good intentions do not innocence make (I know that all too well), and so they were to be punished.

But first, Layla's blindness had to be dealt with. With her newly-earned Enchantix powers, it turned out not to be the hopeless situation Layla had thought it was.

[Layla's Enchantix cures her blindness... FG: "Fairy dust from the wings on an Enchantix is one of the most powerful healing elements in the magical universe" Stella: "Plus, the wings are fabulous!"]

Now, the punishment. They were slated to spend the whole weekend rearranging books in the Alfea library. Stella's attempt to speed it up was a bit of a monster. And on top of that, Sky decided to invite Bloom to his BIG party, where he's planning to announce Bloom to the whole world. Cool huh?

[Sky announces his millennium party to Bloom... Bloom is concerned about her punishment]

While all this was going on, Baltor decided to have a meeting with Diaspro. For those of you not in the know, Sky had been engaged to Diaspro back in season 1, without Bloom knowing. Bloom attacked Diaspro because she thought she was one of the Trix. And then Sky dumped Diaspro and went with Bloom instead. Needless to say, Diaspro has been PO'd at that ever since. And then, Baltor dropped in.

[Baltor enters Diaspro's room and offers her a potion: "This will make all your dreams come true"]

So now, Diaspro has a chance for revenge. Back at Alfea, the Winx decided to lighten up the mood with princess lessons.

[The girls train Bloom... after Tune freaks out a couple times, Tecna realizes they're behind schedule]

With the rearrangement done, Faragonda decided to let the Winx go to Sky's big party. She also had a little dirty secret about Baltor to share, explaining all those visions Bloom had been having.

[FG makes a revelation: She was one of Miriam and Oritel's Company of Light, and Baltor was formed from the Dragonfire. Bloom realizes that Baltor is the only person who knows about her parents' ultimate fate, because FG and everyone else was knocked out during the battle]

And so, here we stand. Layla has her Enchantix powers. Everyone's going to Sky's big party, with Diaspro on the warpath for revenge. Icy's got a new power, and with Baltor as Bloom's opposite, the 2nd part of the season promises to be exciting. So, keep on watching!

And that's it for this edition. In fact, that's it for the WinxTalk podcast for now. We will see you again when the season resumes. Comments and suggestions are welcome at my blog at spiderbraids.livejournal.com and the Winx group at Yahoo: tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/winx . Thanks for listening.

Behind the scenes

I decided to extend the highlights for 3x06-07 a bit from what I had originally recorded.

And yes, I am going on hiatus. I just have no material to work with, so... hello, hiatus!
