Oscar night!
Feb. 27th, 2007 10:31 amWell, the day after, but still...
Considering that I was uni when the Oscars came on live, and the primetime encore telecast over here didn't start until 9, I only got up to around the honorary Oscar bit, but here's what I did see and enjoy...
1. Pan's Labyrinth winning a few awards. Wonder what
dreaming_faerie thinks of that.
2. Marie Antoinette winning best costume. C'mon and squee,
eilonwe! (Then again, it also beat "Curse of the Golden Flower", which is like one of the biggest releases here this year.)
3. Al Gore getting cut off. On purpose.
4. Ellen having Spielberg take a photo of herself with Dirty Harry.
5. Ellen pitching screenplay to Scorsese.
6. Jack Black and Will Farrell whining about comedies not having a good time at Oscar night. And then, John C. Reilly pointing out he was in both Boogie and Talladega Nights.
7. Borat? Nominated? For adapted screenplay? The heck? The announcer calling "Infernal Affairs" Japanese? The heck? (It's from Hong Kong)
8. Hooray for shadow dancing... and sound effect choir. And nominees montage.
9. Writing montage. And of course Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrance (The Shining) has to be in there. (Interesting with Shakespeare in Love, tho...)
And here's what I heard about.
1. I bet someone's going to be mad that Pan was snubbed in the Foreign Film Category.
2. Scorsese. Finally, an Oscar winner.
3. It'll go along nicely with that Best Picture statue too.
4. Isn't it ironic that the song that beat all three Dreamgirls songs is titled I Need To Wake Up? Pretty good song, tho.
5. And at least Jennifer Hudson got her much deserved Oscar. Screw you, Eddie Murphy! (How he even got nominated, I have no idea...)
Scheduling conflict meant that this week's TAR is a bit fragmented. I will say this, though: No more Kevin and Drew.

Date: 2007-02-27 05:44 am (UTC)You mean best foreign film? It was nominated. That's better than nothing. :D And good for it for winning what it won!
Borat is a bit wtf for moi. I never saw the movie, but Borat was just okay from what I saw on Da Ali G Show. Bruno is so much funnier.

More like a LOT. I mean, hello, comedy? And as Ferell and Black sang, comedies don't usually get nommed for Oscars, much less win.
