Since it's gonna be quite some time before I can summarize 2x08 and 2x09 in detail, let me offer you these mini-recaps. Okay, they're not exactly mini, they just won't be as complete as the full summaries (there are parts that I don't remember anything at all). Capiche?
2x08: Party Crasher
So, RF, despite everything being damaged during last season's attack, still looks good. They're having a party, and they've invited everyone. Including the student witches (we see Lucy walking straight past Mirta, but there's no reference to the witches' help in the battle). A few suspicious looking witches have come along as well... Hmm. Blah blah blah.
Arena. We meet Helia while he's drawing birds. On paper, to Tecna's amusement (she and Digit recommend that he use a tablet). Sal's nephew, but much unlike his uncle, he doesn't like to get hands dirty, and quit RF. Stella and Flora? Impressed by his drawings. Flora more so, even notes the paper he's drawing on.
Blah, blah, Bloom looks for Avalon. Comes across the three suspicious witches. Asks them, gets no info, has no suspicions (but Lockette does).
Bloom returns to the arena. The Specs are getting ready for their little party. Flags are being carried around. Sal and Coda announce that the school's spirit remains unshaken despite all the damage, and they've decided to renew the foundations of the school. What follows the earthquake is impressive CG. Cool lookin' arena, dudes! And with a roof, too.
While a parade is going on at the new RF, the Trix get a call from Evil Guy at the ruins. He's sending a shadow monster.
Garden. Musa and Layla talk about what dance they were planning to do. Nice dancing. Some woman silently walks past. Somehow Musa knows this is Darcy. (Doesn't mesh at all with her music powers, IMO.) Meanwhile, Digit beats Tecna at some game, and shows off a game she programmed which features a nice long scene of Tecna and Timmy kissing. (Wonder why "they" cut this out?)
Blah blah blah, the monster attacks, while Icy and Stormy break windows. Everyone attacks it (well, 6 transformed fairies, and a bunch of dragon riders anyway).
Timmy is evacuating the stands as a guard mentions the broken windows. Tim contacts the teachers. They conclude that the monster's just a distraction, and send the senior guard along.
Flight squadron in cool CG!
Flora has an idea to split their attack above and below the monster. But it would have been better for her rep if they, y'know, actually got to do it, because Flora gets sprayed by spit pretty quickly. Think Layla at the end of 2x03, except without the wall.
Luckily, a bunch of ropes stop the monster from advancing on her. Sky makes a recommendation to tie it to its own tail to fight its own strength. Turns out to be Helia, and it's revealed that he used to be his best student before he Ostened.
Stella, Tecna and Amore quickly have a reason to get mad at Helia, though, when he releases the monster instead and walks down the roof to the garden as soon as Sky tells him that Flora is okay. Hey, if you're not going to end the battle quickly, at least ensure Flora's safety! She's still in there!
Tecna decides to come up with a new plan, based on Helia's useless stunt: use ropes to rein in the monster and attack at the same spot. She's using a computer to put the Specs at 20m, and they shoot ropes from that distance. Meanwhile, the senior guard makes its way to the Codex room.
As the Specs' ropes start to break, Flora adds some vines to buy them a few extra moments. Tecna finds the weak spot under the throat. I wait and wait and wait, and I never see the four Specs even hitting its throat. Sloppy!
The monster blows up and turns back into Kerbog, while the senior guard positions itself around a huge scale. Icy is behind a post, sees there are too many of them and flees off. IMO, the worst possible strategy, since she has her Gloomix, and she could still have waited for the other two. Why no guardsicles?
Bloom finally meets up with Avalon, and Avalon congratulates her for fighting the battle, while mentioning that he was evacutated. Sky is not pleased. Meanwhile, guess who's just drawn Flora a portrait?
Evil Guy's Pad. Icy apologizes (not sucking up to LD... honest!), and Evil Guy calls them slow-witted, but plans to attack again when their guard is down.
2x09: Professor Avalon's Secret
Some guy reads a book preaching about a prophecy involving a creature of destruction with wings mirroring himself among citizens, and attacking when three planets align. Blah blah blah.
Some winged guy destroys a bunch of pillagers, and then he turns into a destructive creature doing some pillaging of his own.
Meanwhile, Bloom dreams about her family. Blah.
Cafeteria. Stella has problems with the cafeteria food, as well as holographic and duplicating apples. The apples are courtesy of WizGiz's new machine. Stella chomps down crackers :D 7 hours of classes today makes it the worst day ever. No sooner said however, than there are many purple flowers on the table. These are courtesy of Avalon. Purple is Bloom and Flora's favorite color. Bloom talks to Avalon about her dream last night. Stella thinks it's the best day ever. Meanwhile, Tecna is suspicious about Avalon's angel wings.
In the courtyard, FG mentions books missing from the library to Tec and Layla. They're holding the books right now. More stuff about flowers. Tec is suspicious of Avalon some more.
Avalon teaches cognitive analysis, which is about trusting your instincts. He asks about who the first fairy was, and he gets a barrage of the same answer, which apparently is wrong. Layla claims she learned it from her mom, and her mom's never wrong. Avalon insists that something that is well known may be in fact completely false. (PLOT POINT! PLOT POINT!)
Digit runs around online inside Tecna's computer (nice power!), and finds a book. It's too big to download but Tecna can find it in the library. Meanwhile, Lockette, trying to play inside the computer, runs into the monitor and snags her dress on a pen. Chatta conjures up a new dress for her.
Library. Tecna finds the book, reads about winged creatures and comes across the prophecy mentioned in the open.
Garden. Digit finds Avalon in the garden. But Tecna has found him in his office, and he even walks past her. This sends alarms ringing in Tecna's computer brain.
She gets Lockette, feeding some pixie pets, to come along with her to Avalon's room, where Bloom is now. Turns out Bloom's just having a family tree reading there. We learn that her parents are named Mariam and Oritel. (It's the only thing we see, besides Daphne as her sister, despite the size of the tree that pops up.) Tecna is still suspicious, however.
New-look Pally properly introduces his new look to the students. It's the next stage of his evolution (Charles Darwin would be proud), and man is he handsome! :) After a brief flashback to the students throwing stuff at the old-look Pally (he gets hit in the face with a Flying Book), New!Pally teaches them about magical vocation and technical charms.
Later, everyone learns about Plasma Spheres (not Truth Orbs... honest!). New!Pally gives everyone a warning on proper use. Stella initially volunteers herself to do this, but decides not to upon being warned that it could suck the air out of the room. Amaryl goes up, and learns how to create the Plasma Sphere, using a visualization technique called "inversion". She's good at creating the sphere, but instead of hurling it at one of the targets, she hurls it at Stella instead. New!Pally stops it from hitting her, and threatens to expel Amaryl. Oh yeah... PLOT POINT! PLOT POINT!
The fairies and a few pixies discuss Tecna's suspicions. It's mentioned that when Avalon was teaching at Malacoy, there was an attack by a winged man around there when 3 planets aligned. Messenger recommends that they consult Grif, since she's an expert in astrology and prophecies. Timmy gives Tec a lift, on his windrunner with turbojets.
Avalon, class, two swords. One is plain metal, the other is an orange sword Bloom picks first. Musa wants to clobber Avalon if he does anything suspicious.
CT. Grif elaborates on the three ancient planets. She has to look at the sky to see when they'll align.
Back with the swords. Blue haired girl beats the orange sword Bloom chose with the blunt metal sword. Avalon tells Bloom that the blunt sword's dents were because it had been used in battle before, and it survived by being made with a special alloy. Moral: never trust appearances. (Over in the states, it gets twisted into another "trust your first instinct" moral because Bloom was originally going to pick the metal sword first yes?)
Avalon's room. Bloom has spheres around her. She has a brief vision where she hears her mom's lullaby, and it ends with her actually having a medallion with the coat-of-arms she saw in her dreams.
Meanwhile, Tecna is back, while the pixies (Messenger, Digit and the bee) are gathering data with Grif. Grif tells the pixies that the three planets align at 11:59 tonight. They only have 10 min.
Night time. Some random girl's sleeping with Piff. It is mentioned that Bloom said nothing about her session with Avalon. Tecna has a new cool-lookin' watch which tells her that there are only 4:32 until Avalon transforms. The bee is asked to stay behind.
Avalon saunas. EWW! Blah blah blah, the fairies arrive and transform and give chase. Blah blah blah. Tecna lobs the Plasma Sphere she learned earlier at Avalon, doing some damage not only to Avalon but the window behind him as well... even though the others tell her that by that time, Avalon should have transformed already.
FG's room. Tecna demands explanation. Avalon claims he only uses his wings when necessary. The clones she saw were the result of WizGiz's machine. Most importantly, the well-known prophecy Tecna based all of her suspicions on? Written by a comedian. (Comedian?! Tain't funny McGee!) FG tells her that just because it's well-known doesn't mean it's true. (The debunking of the prophecy itself solves a key point of contention many fans have with this season: Tecna's lack of subsequent suspicion of Avalon.) Others apologize, while Bloom looks at her medallion in the garden.
