Winx Club Mini Recap: 2x11: Race Against Time

Remember how FG told us that Darkar would be spying in case someone returned to the pixie village? This ep plays on that.

Kiko is sunbathing. Moving on...

Today's lesson from New!Pally: Pronunciation is key to spell casting. "Expedia catanum" opens a padlock (which Bloom does successfully). "Expedia catanas" creates kittens. And "exagero catanum" makes those kittens bigger. Flora says that last one after daydreaming the about Helia saving her from a monster (this is how 2x08 should have happened!) and then carrying her off.

Robe creep mixes stuff in a pot and creates some small glowing green things flying around. Meanwhile, Bloom decides to test out her healing spells from last week, while Layla thinks that Flo should just tell Helia, but she tells Layla to see if Helia likes her first. (Knut sells ice cream to some girl with a hat!)

Bloom looks around in the library. Some book "conveniently" falls out for Bloom. Robe creep appears.

The pixies get beaned by those green glowing things during a game they're playing. (The field's got a garden maze, a cone slalom, and some pools of water. Digit throws the ball at the correct angle for it to go into the goalhole, but she's deprived of a well-deserved score by Piff sleeping in there.)

Bloom kills a tree while testing her healing powers with the book she found. Meanwhile, the girls can't find their pixies. (We find out that the game is called something like Banbozo Ball.) In the game field, the pixies get up and they're all mumbling something about getting back to the pixie village. Except for Piff, and not only because she doesn't talk. It's part of Evil Guy's big plan.

There's a brief scene at RF where Timmy finds that Tecna has locked him out from her computer, and Timmy thinks that it's because to her he's no hero (see "Timmy doesn't shoot the Trix"). Brandon recommends things like changing the way he dresses and wearing contacts. We'll pick this thread up in a few episodes...

But for now... The girls have rounded up their pixies, and the main illogicity of the plot (Digit trying to fly off to the pixie village like the others even though she is a very logical being... one would half-expect her to say, "I'm homesick too, but I don't think that heading back to the village is logical...") is addressed, even if we don't get any explanation. "'Because' is not logical! This isn't like you at all." (Did the writers forget that Digit is a logical pixie, and then had to haphazardly write this in as a fix?) Even though the fairies explain pretty clear why they absolutely can't go back to the village (Evil Guy, tracking, hello!), Chatta tells the pixies to scatter, resulting in Winx transforming and chasing them down. We find out that Lockette can conjure up an arrow to find her way, and that Tecna can track Digit when Digit's online (say, to find the best route back to their village!). Nice touch with Flora apologizing before vining in Chatta. Tune thinks Musa is being rude for capturing her. Piff's missing when they're all locked up, but Layla doesn't worry because she found Piff asleep after flying just 10 feet. The other pixies are PO'd at being locked up in a box.

FG's room. It's a homesickness spell. Evil Darkar's behind this. After Bloom notes that she's keeping things secret, FG reveals that he's after the four pieces of the Codex. Trix took the first piece at RF, and of course the village has another. The other two are at CT and Alfea. Bloom continues to test her healing powers.

RF. Layla the fairy ("The things I do to make new friends...") finds a poem in Helia's room. The line that draws her attention is something like "The only thing that goes with fauna..."

Bloom tries a purification spell, and it turns the tree into a monster which she has to slap with the book.

Two shadow monsters are waiting outside. Robe creep finds where the pixies are being kept, and they're worried.

FG is meditating or something. Bloom comes in gives FG the book. It's not from their collection, and it must have been planted. She gives her a new book.

Robe creep frees the pixies, and Digit is actually among the first to say that they'll be safer at home (double WTF?!, one for Digit not only trying to get home but also spearheading this run, and another for saying that they'll be safer at the village, after being told that heading back to the village will allow Evil Guy to find it and get its Codex, so that's a no-no). So, LD's plan is back on track.

Fairy Layla returns and Musa runs smack into her, and mentions the missing pixies. Digit and Tune carry Piff. Then Amore and Lockette carry Piff. The fairies follow by Flo's voice of nature (Stella: "You can tell those thorny bushes not to rip my clothes!" Heh). Meanwhile, Bloom finds a spell that cures longing and sadness, and runs.

The pixies run into their bonded fairies, and Chatta just says "Leave us alone!" Cue run-in with minions. A few transformations later, Tecna, Flora, and Stella team up to deal with one of them. Meanwhile, Layla finds that the other has 20 mouths.

Bloom runs through the forest. Why she isn't flying I dunno. Meanwhile, one of the pixies says "We shouldn't abandon our bonded fairies..." So, don't. "But we gotta get back to the pixie village!" They scurry off again.

With a stomp or two, fairy Musa bounces the other monster into a tree (KEWL!), where Flora times her spell perfectly to tie up the monster with vines for Stella to blow up.

Two problems: The pixies are missing and everyone's wings are covered in goo from the monster blowing up. Bloom arrives in her fairy gear. Tecna gives her a transmitter to attach to her outfit, and Flora tells her to rush.

LD is getting impatient. The pixies are taking a break in front of a bush... for just enough time for Bloom to get there and (after making a point of having to pronounce it correctly) cast the counterspell and foil LD's plan. And LD is as teed as a person whose plan has been foiled at the 11th hour can be.

Layla discusses the poem with Flo. It wasn't finished, but what could go with fauna than Flora? (Opinionation: which leaves a better hole to fill with Flora, a rhyme [as in the edited], or a sorta pun [as in the unedited]?) She tells Flora to send Helia a message. Flora decides to send something else instead.

Helia is meditating, and he notices flowers growing from a flower pot that has been left on his windowsill. Meanwhile, Flora's flying back to Alfea, while Evil Guy stews, but promises that the next time, the Winx won't be so lucky.

Funny thing is, the other pixies we've seen (Blinky, Messenger, and the bee) aren't involved in this plotline at all...

Another thought is that I can't imagine anyone being interested in Helia, since his roping didn't make any difference in the attack, when it should have made a lot (read: ending the battle much quicker). And why did Helia single out Flo anyway (never mind that even HER safety wasn't ensured by that stunt)?
