Gotta get this out of the way, since it's been like two weeks since the show ended...
So, at the last recap, we were in South Africa, with a final three of Marc and Rovilson, Adrian and Collin, and Pamela and Vanessa. They're also the only teams in the whole season to win any legs, as P/V pointed out early on.
1. So, the first stop, some museum about the Apartheid, where teams had to put in street names from District Six into a computer (more precisely, a product-placed Sony Vaio!) to find a password to get further instructions, that being to read a paragraph off a display on the Apartheid dealie.
2. After that, the Detour. Choice: find three marked rocks amongst thousands (Me: "Yeah, right!"), or make a wire art radio (Me: "Ooh!"). Somehow, after M/R tried their hand at the rocks and quickly gave up, A/C not only took this task, they actually finished it. Yes, they actually finished the needle in a haystack task, without bleeding so much time. While making the wire art radio, Vanessa quipped about the injuries she had gotten on the race, including the amnesia.
3. Next stop, a football pitch. The task: Score three goals past a goalkeeper. Watch M/R trying to get the keeper to cut them some slack, and then Marc suggesting that Rovilson streak to distract the goalie (HEE!)
3. Next task had the racers quadbiking around sand dunes, and looking for their next clue, by opening pots at certain spots, and then waiting out an egg-timer Yield-style if the racers found one. Hmm... interesting. Colliin accidentally buried himself in the sand when his bike fell over on him. Ouch. There was also some waiting game being played where M/R waited next to the point where they found their clue for a while before leaving. And then A/C took their time in considering whether to open that pot.
4. Next stop, Cape Horn. Yeah, THE Cape Horn. A/C overtook M/R when M/R wasted time at the actual cape itself thinking that the guy they were looking for would be there. He was waiting at the lighthouse overlooking the cape, and racers had to guess where their next destination was. It was Singapore, and two of the teams only needed one guess (A/C only needed two).
5. Airport bunching! The Singapore portion consisted entirely of taxi-rides, and while the other teams were smart to keep their taxi when they had to take their clue at some statue, A/C ended up having to take a different cab to their next destination. Ouch. Meanwhile, V/P quipped that they wouldn't be getting lost since they weren't the ones driving. Heh.
6. That destination was some beach on Sentosa island (ooh, I've been to Sentosa island!) where the teams had (as has been the case for TAR in recent seasons) a final Roadblock about where they've been. More specifically, arranging flags in the order of what countries they've been to. First at the beach was M/R, then V/P (shocker!), then A/C.
7. Rovilson took the task for the team (if the Roadblock splitting rule was in effect, he actually had to), and apparently, he isn't as good as Marc at geography. He took so long to determine which flag was Hong Kong (he called it the one with the Polynesian flower), though I wouldn't blame him because that was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part of the whole race. It took so long, Collin finished the task in one go (he once had a book of flags), and even V/P finished the task before them (shocker again!).
8. And so it was that, after nothing but 1st and 2nd place finishes in every freakin' leg, M/R finished in 3rd. They'll take it of course. Your winners of TARA2: Adrian and Collin. That'll definitely be a good morale-boost for the hearing impaired community, I tell ya.
Just like last season, the week after the finale was a memories special looking back at the race.
1. Yeah, so basically they recapped the entire race in just one hour, and they showed some memorable moments, like a contestant saying "I do all the screwing" while fixing a bike, or another racer trying to ride a buffalo. Hee. Somewhere along the way, V/P appropriated the famous Forrest Gump "box of chocolates" quote, replacing the box of chocolates with the yellow envelope.
2. Interestingly, they're referring to the whole "record some song on a Sony camcorder" bit as now a race tradition. Dude. It's only been two seasons. Also of note is that they skipped the Hong Kong bit, and made it look like they went straight from the Phillipines to New Zealand.
3. In New Zealand, we got our first bit of unused footage, when it was revealed that V/P got directions to their next destination from the guys who rammed into them. We also got some footage of events BETWEEN the NZ legs, where we found out that Henry (of Teri/Henry) had a birthday during the race, and Ann/Diane separated themselves from the others while the others were having a mud bath and forming alliances. Also on the agenda: sheep watching, speedboat driving, and bungee swinging.
4. On to Japan, where mustachioed M/R did a little mugging for the Sony execs and proposing themselves as the next J-Pop idols. Apparently, one of them was even born in Japan. Teri said, "I hate Japan. It sucks." Way to be straight to the point.
5. Korea, and M/R thought that Paula and Nat's tire-flattening tollbooth collision was comedy. Yeah, you get into one yourself and we'll see who gets the last laugh. After showing Terri calling M/R "Magnum PI" while they were Yielding them in Seoul, there was more between-leg footage of the remaining teams visiting an old palace and watching the changing of the guard.
6. Germany, and M/R said they were kicked out of a cafe at 10, so they went to some private club to pass the time. Apparently, people visiting private clubs in Germany carry dollar bills, because I saw a lot of them stuffed in a pair of pants while M/R were at the club. Hee. M/R also questioned the air-ability of the footage. Hee.
7. Prague, with P/N passing the time waiting for T/H by busking, before pairing up with them to photograph the monuments (instead of rolling kegs). There was also some off-time Prague sightseeing footage, and even a group meal. Group photo, and M/R making clowny poses (HEE!)
8. The first Hungary leg was raced on the hottest day in their recorded history. OUCH! There was M/R quipping about playing the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz (while handling straw, geddit?), and then the next leg had Ann/Diane taking their Yield in stride: they could enjoy the view of Heroes' Square for a half-hour (or whatever the egg-timer was).
9. South Africa, and charity. Yeah. V/P were proud of picking up elephant dung. Seriously! After a clip of Collin burying himself in the sand, he pointed out he was terrible at quadbikes and F1 (hee). And lastly, Collin's flag-fu and Rovilson saying "My geography teacher's going to kill me." Post-race comment from M/R: "Don't underestimate the disabled, because they might kick your butt. They kicked ours."
10. And even during the commercial breaks, they managed to get in a few TAR-related plugs for Standard Chartered's charity work (using M/R's "formal check presentation" for the clip), and a Sony Vaio ad about the "street names as password" task. Seriously. Also, there was also an ad for applications for season 3. (Applications ended March 3.)
