TAR returns for another season, replete with more stunt-casting.

Ep 1:
1. Alright, so we've got the usual 11 teams, with a few stunt-cast teams: Jordan/Jeff of the US Big Brother (introduced with a scene from BB in which Jordan admits she doesn't know how to read a clock!), and Brent/Caite, the latter of whom is the former Miss Teen South Carolina who made that speech about maps. Also, we've got four (!) teams from Rhode Island (!!), one of whom (Louie/Michael) bills themselves as undercover detectives, which, as has been pointed out, is a profession that relies on not being known.
2. Okay, so instead of being provided rides like the usual seasons, they're taking public transport to LAX. Cue ":-O" faces. On the way, we have a team making a shoutout to Carmen Sandiego. Anyone remember that game? (Heck, I remember the PBS gameshow based on said game.)
3. LAX, and we see Jordan accidentally saying "Two tickets to China" and thankfully, Jeff clears her up :-D Everyone's heading to Chile, first 3 teams get a flight via Dallas, while the rest get tickets via Miami. We see Miami-bound Carol/Brandy (dating moms) hoping for rain in Dallas or mechanical failure. They get the latter, so they're all connecting at Miami. Meanwhile, we see Dan/Jordan (brothers) reference Caite's map speech, and Jet/Cord (OK cowboys, by which I mean they're from Oklahoma) exchange their money... for Brazilian. D'oh!
4. Next stop, Santiago. Of course, we see the cowboys finding their money is useless, while everyone else gets on a bus to Valparaiso without any issues. We have the first Roadblock of the season at the top of a hill in Valparaiso: "Who has the balance of a cat and the courage of a lion?" It involves cable walking with safety harnesses. Those will come in handy later.
5. Next clue marker is at the bottom of the hill, and the clue specifically mentions taking a funicular. Brent/Caite don't even know what a funicular is, and walk down the stairs. This will be important. Next clue is to paint the town. Actually, more like paint a 2x2' square on the outside wall of a house. We see Dan falling off the cable (thank you, safety harness) and recovering nicely by using it as a zipline, and grandma Jody letting her granddaughter Shannon take the roadblock because she's lost her sense of balance. Did we mention that Jody runs marathons? Dana/Adrian (high-school sweethearts) have elected to have Adrian walk the rope. We'll see how that turns out for them later.
6. We see Carol/Brandy identifying their can of paint as a specific shade from the Martha Stewart collection :-) The real challenge about painting the town is finding the houses. Steve/Allie (former Phillies 3B coach and his daughter) paint a bit of some clueless guy's interior :-D, while the detectives paint over a bit of graffiti. More importantly, Dan/Jordan lose one of their brushes, and spend a bit of time whining about it. Adrian falls off his rope, and unlike Dan, has to be hauled back to the start to go again.
7. First place is Jordan/Jeff, who get a vacation to Whistler, meant to tie in with Vancouver 2010, but looking a bit less desirable after the Nodar incident. They're not the first BB-related-team to get a 1st place, but hopefully they won't follow the same path as said first team. Brent/Caite are 2nd, but get hit with 30 minutes for taking the stairs, before checking-in in 7th. Dan/Jordan get 15 for losing a brush. Adrian keeps falling off the rope, and he and Dana get a field elimination.

Ep 2:
1. I completely missed the first 15 minutes of the episode, but basically, they're all heading back to Santiago to take a bus to Puerto Varas. Most are going direct in the evening to arrive the next morning (With Grandma Jody and Shannon in dead last), while a couple of the teams decide to go early and connect through Temuco. Jet/Cord are connecting to Varas with a 7pm bus, while the others have a 6:30pm bus. Turns out that the 6:30 bus leaves from a different terminal, and the cowboys keep it to themselves when they find this out. The others end up missing both their bus, and the cowboys' as well, so the others end up with a 1am bus, putting them behind the first bus from Santiago (but still ahead of the other two).
2. After the bus ride, they then have to drive to a hotel and (Jet/Cord only) wait for opening time to take a boat to an island and hike to the top of a hill, before getting a Detour, and this is about where I came in. Detour is between dressing a llama, and jumping off a pier in a condor outfit. Dan/Jordan get lost on the way, and Dan has to push the car to reverse it :-) Jet/Cord mistake a horn sound as a burro, before making quick work of the former, even calling themselves llama whisperers (does that sound familiar?). Joe(/Heidi, husband/wife) gets kicked by a llama, while the detectives have to fence a llama in to get it dressed up. Meanwhile, Brent/Caite doing the condor task gets the "EPIC FAIL" edit :-D
3. Next stop, some ranch with a Roadblock about making Kuchen. Basically, gather ingredients to make Kuchen, which includes milking a cow. Thankfully (?) all the racers recognize the term "baker's dozen" as 13 rather than 12. Brother Jordan watches a cow poop after he's done milking it, and the censors decide not to show it :-) Cord has a bit of the cake after finishing the task, and wiping his lips when Jet asks him if he had some :-) We also see the detectives drive past the ranch sign clear into Puerto Varas.
4. Pit Stop is at a park in Puerto Varas, and not surprisingly, the cowboys win and get some sailboards, as Phil suggests they get new belt buckles. Meanwhile, the detectives run into Jeff/Jordan, who point them back down the road. Grandma Jody is doing this Roadblock, and she manages to get a hoof to the head while milking the cow. Michael takes the Roadblock for the detectives, and finishes before Grandma. Grandma/Shannon get eliminated, but manage to get a nice pithy exchange before their exit. Team BB avoid elimination like the previous BB-related team by finishing 6th.

Ep 3:
1. After the obligatory "Donate to Chile" PSA, we're off. Brent/Caite finished the previous leg in 4th, but tonight, we see Caite vomiting in the bathroom and taking a detour to the emergency room, pushing them back to a last place start. Doesn't matter in the middle of the night, because they're all taking buses to Bariloche, Argentina in the morning. Hey, isn't that name familiar...? In Bariloche, they'll look for a saloon and play poker with a Travelocity gnome.
2. Jet/Cord manage to luck out and find someone who doesn't only speak English, but has been to said saloon. Trivia: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid once hid out there. Carol/Brandy comment of the cowboys, "Their tricks have tricks up their sleeves."
3. Appears that the cowboys used up their luck on getting info on the saloon, because it takes them a few hands to beat the gnome (most are lucky enough with two of a kind; they lose with two pairs on their first hand). Then again, maybe not: The Roadblock is right behind the saloon and involves roping a haybale with a steerhead, how convenient. It only takes two flings for Jet to get the job done, and even that doesn't please him.
4. Next stop, cliff overlooking a river. Detour is between playing polo and looking for a bag using coordinates. Cowboys go for polo, and are surprised to find that they're not using real horses, but wood practice horses. No matter, they're still better at it than some other teams: Joe manages to fall off his high horse (HEE!) twice. We also get to hear Carol tell Brandy, "Pretend it's my face" :-)
5. Those doing the bad detour manage to make it even more complicated than it already is, as quite a few teams confuse the gunslinger they get the coordinates from with the bandit they're supposed to give the bag to, and at one point, Jeff(/Jordan): "We definitely shouldn't reproduce." They actually end up getting their bag when the detectives dig it up and read the coordinates. Ouch.
6. Brent/Caite get lost for so long looking for the saloon, but still pass the hopeless Monique/Shawne (mom-trepeneurs) at the Roadblock, with Brent taking just two flings to get his steer. At the Pitstop at some other ranch, cowboys take 1st and get a vacation to Patagonia... in other words, where they are right now, as Phil makes another comment about their belt buckles :-)
7. Most teams who start the bag search detour end up finishing the polo, with the mom-trepenurs switching from polo to bag searching (to their credit, they're the only team to properly perform this task). We see the detectives yell "SPARTA" after getting their pitstop clue (in the form of a trophy, I might add). All that task-switching results in Brent/Caite finishing 7th from 9 teams, followed by the detectives, while the mom-trepeneurs are 9th and out.
