Winx Club: The Shadow Phoenix (part 4)

spiderbraidsTomorrow, Nick US begins airing its redub of S3, but first, let's get the last special out of the way...
SP floats through his main hall: "And now, my plan will finally be complete. I will have ultimate power with the Codex, and the Dragon Flame, when you, fairy, become Dark Bloom!" SP casts a spell on Bloom, turning her into something similar to her fairy form, except with a black version of her usual fairy outfit, and long grey leggings. We also see that she has purple eyeshadow and yellow eyes. Scary. SP: "We will begin the ritual."
SP puts the Codex into a box: "We're almost ready, Dark Bloom..." Darcy: "Leaving so soon?" Icy: "Hey, aren't you forgetting something?" Stormy: "Like say us?" SP: "No, I haven't forgotten. I know you want a share of the power that will soon be mine, but that's NOT part of the plan!" SP knocks Icy back with a spell. SP: "I send you back from where you came: Light Rock Monastery!" With that SP, throws the Trix into a portal, before going back to Bloom: "And now, we will begin."
Castle halls. Lockette: "I can sense Bloom! This way!" The pixies are flying ahead of the Winx. Stella: "Y'know, I've got a feeling we're not alone." Sure enough, we see the Winx's reflection in an axe. A monster chops his axe into the walls to send the place shaking. And here comes the monster. Stella and Aisha go at the monster, and Stella fires a light attack, which bounces off the axe, and Aisha gets light in her eyes. Flora casts up some roots and vines, which the axe takes care of in two seconds flat. Musa: "Alright, sound wave!" This also achieves nothing. Axe chops into the ground, sending the Winx flying into the wall. Pixies: "RUN!"
Thankfully, Griffin is here to stop the monster herself. As well as FG and Codatorta. Musa: "Are we ever happy to see you." FG: "Did you think we would not come to help? Really." Accompanying them are the Codex pixies as well, even though FG already said they were supposed to accompany them on this trip in the first place.
Musa points out that the monster is trying to break through Grif's spell. Coda: "That? Don't worry about him. We'll handle it." The monster breaks through Grif's spell, knocking the teachers to the floor. Coda: "Lady Griffin, are you alright?" Grif: "I'm fine..." FG: "Now hurry girls, you must find Bloom!" Batwings pixie: "Before the Phoenix completes his evil plan. This way!"
We get a good look at the monster in relation with the teachers, and the monster utterly dwarfs them. FG and Grif cast a spell at it, and again the monster bounces it back with the axe. Coda takes it on with his sword, and after some scuffling, axe knocks the sword away from him. FG: "Strength of the ancient titans!" Grif: "Speed of Lifita!" (sp?) FG and Grif cast their spells on Coda, and with those spell Coda takes away the monster's axe, and essentially squeezes the monster to oblivion. Coda: "Now that was a workout!" :-D FG: "And now, the Shadow Phoenix!"
We cut to Brandon outside: "Here, monster, monster..." :-D Brandon's busy fighting a monster, and Helia's also facing another: "We need to wrap this up..." Helia fall off the small platform he and the monster are on, and the monster makes a jump for him... and gets tasered by Helia's glove. Helia gets out of the way to avoid getting smooshied. Sky: "That's it, let's go!" The Specs run into the palace.
Back with SP and Dark Bloom: "And now dear Dark Bloom, we will open the doorway to the interplanetary dimension... and the Codex is the key." SP cackles, and so does Bloom, as the Codex opens a portal. SP: "The dimensional passage. Shall we?" SP and Dark Bloom go through the portal to a big platform in the interplanetary dimension. SP: "Everything is set. It is now time to begin the ritual. Bloom, begin the chant of power!" Bloom: "YES." And with that, she starts yet another Latin chant.
Back in the castle. Batwings pixie: "Hurry, to the throne room!" So we have 5 Winx and 10 pixies coming into the throne room. Aisha: "This must be the place." Stella: "Then where's Bloom?" Blue hat pixie: "They must've already passed through the doorway. We can open it again for you." She and the other Codex pixies get to it (with a Latin chant of course). Aisha: "Let's go!" And with that, the other Winx (but not the pixies) head through the portal.
Ritual. SP: "Yes, the doorway is opening!" Stel comes through the portal: "Not with us to lock it down!" :-D SP: "What?" Aisha throws an attack at Dark Bloom: "Plasma orb!" Same with Stel: "Solar power!" The other Winx fire off at SP, who jumps out of the way. SP is seriously teed off. One of the Winx: "Leave her alone!" SP: "Start the chant over. I'll take care of them. I'm going to make you very sorry you fairies!" Stella: "We have to take him on together!" Stella and Aisha keep firing their attacks. SP blocks them: "Pathetic." SP takes out Stella, then Aisha, then the other Winx.
Good thing reinforcements are coming in... Sky: "Hey you! Release Bloom, Shadow Phoenix!" SP: "You didn't say please, boy!" As if that would make any difference... but anyways, SP immobilizes everyone with a salvo of shots. Sky: "I can't move!" Riven: "I know!" SP: "The doorway is opening, and you are doomed!" Dark Bloom is back to chanting, and not long after, a big purple... thing forms above her, with electricity zapping out of it. I take that this is the power SP is after... Bloom cackles as SP turns back into his Phoenix form to fly over to Bloom and the power.
Sky gets up off his backside and struggles to walk over to Bloom. We see Brandon and Tecna reacting. Sky: "Bloom! You've got to listen to me! It's Sky, your Sky!" SP: "Do you think she still cares? Fool!" Sky: "I want you to listen to me! Listen to me and fight! Fight for who you truly are! Fight for us! You are strong, stronger than the Phoenix and his evil..." During this, we get a flashback to when Bloom was with Sky at the fountain at the end of the last special. This was actually part of the original episode, and 4Kids skipped over it in their version, so it certainly says something that Nick/Rainbow felt it necessary to include the flashback in the one-hour special...
Sky: "You saved my life once! Now listen to me, and save your own! I care more about you than anyone else in the entire world! Please, please come back to me!"
Sky tries to get even closer to Bloom, but then gets "electrocuted" and falls over in slow motion. We see Timmy, Tecna, Brandon, and Helia react. SP begins to direct the power into himself: "At last!"
Bloom begins to visibly strain herself seemingly fighting the darkness within, and suddenly... her outfit turns into her regular fairy outfit, and her eyes turn back to their normal blue. Bloom takes down the power, and SP is not pleased: "Huh. What's this? What's going on? No, it cannot be, it's impossible!" The power dissipates, and Bloom lands in front of her Sky. Bloom hugs Sky. How cute.
Out of nowhere, we see the teachers are also there. Coda: "Specialists! Form up!" SP: "For this you will suffer! I will destroy you all!" Timmy, Brandon, and Sky ready their weapons. Sky: "Shield the Winx!" Grif: "Are you ready Faragonda?" FG: "Of course Griffin!" SP starts firing a salvo of shots. Riven protects Musa with his sword, and Brandon spins his double-blade to protect Stella (pretty awesome). Brandon: "Go for it, we've got you covered." Of course Sky ptoects Bloom: "Go on Bloom!" SP flies over to FG and Grif: "You are doomed!" SP fires away, but FG and Grif are shielding everyone from him. FG and Grif are straining a bit, so Bloom has everyone hold hands together: "Okay Winx, all together now!" The girls concentrate and cast their spell: "Charmix Convergence!" The Convergence takes care of SP, as well as one of the arches and columns.
Back in the castle, everything is shaking and rocks are falling into the water. Bloom: "Come on, let's get out of here!" Everyone rushes out through the Codex pixies' portal (including Lockette, who never actually went in in the first place :-\) Flora's pixie: "Are you okay?" FG: "Yes, and the Phoenix is no more!" Blue hat pixie: "Everything is collapsing!" Sky: "Quick, to the ships!" Unlike in the original episodes, we actually see everyone run (or fly) into the Specialists' ship, and the ship flying out of the castle area, back through the tunnel to outside, and right into the sunset...
as we fade out to Alfea, where we see another big party, as a generic teenybopper song plays: "Do you remember when we first met / I will never forget / the day my life was changed for good..." We see FG and Grif drinking from long thin glasses, and Sky looking for Bloom. Sky sees Bloom playing with Kiko, and Sky just runs in and kisses her. No, seriously. Lockette blushes. Man, talk about rushed... They hear Timmy: "Gather around everybody, picture time! Come on, all together!" Timmy sets the timer on his floating camera before he rushes over to Tec, as Bloom and Sky rush downstairs. Through the viewfinder, we see Aisha walking in next to Musa as Bloom and Sky run straight in front of the camera going off. We see Sky's head poking into view along with (looks back in part 1 recap) Glim as the camera goes off again. And we see Bloom trying to drag Aisha over as the camera goes off one last time. Cute.
While I would say Nick/Rainbow managed to get a coherent story out of the whole of S2, it arguably suffers a bit from being rushed, especially in the second half (arguably out of necessity). The S1 specials were pretty well-adapted (except maybe for the Alfea clean-up), but with just one special for S2, new viewers will certainly have quite a few questions, like, What's the deal with Helia's glove? Aisha's wave powers? etc.? For this reason, I really do hope that Nick/Rainbow decide to re-dub the full episodes later, as those would explain a lot. (Yes, I am aware that would open a can of worms regarding Charmix, but still...)
