We see a choir at the coronation ceremony, as we gradually pull out to reveal the main chapel of Arendelle. Anna looks over at Hans, who's in attendance, as the minister guy presenting the orb and scepter to Elsa has her take off her gloves... Uh-oh...

So as minister starts giving his blessing in Old Norse, you can see the anxiety on Elsa's face as she concentrates on not icing up the ceremonial items, especially after she notices them beginning to ice. Thankfully for her, minister finishes and Elsa puts down the items quickly without anyone noticing, and puts her gloves back on equally quick :-)

It's the night time after-party, where guests are dancing. A castle servant introduces Elsa, and of course she's looking regal. Then he introduces Anna... and she's just now rushing into position... Awkward :-)

So yeah, the sisters are standing next to each other and their first exchange in a really long time shows just how awkward things are:
Elsa: "You look beautiful."
Anna: "Thank you. You look beautifuller. I mean, not fuller. You don’t look fuller, but more beautiful."

Elsa, having been locked away for so long, comments: "So this is what a party looks like..." :-) Anna: "It's warmer than I thought..." Elsa wonders what that great smell is, and she and Anna take a nice long whiff: "Chocolate :-D"

WIRChocolate
Jennifer Lee does seem to love her chocolate... and I don't blame her :-)

Anna's about to say something else when suddenly, a servant brings in the Tudyk character and introduces him as the Duke of Weaseltown :-D "Weselton! The Duke of Weselton!... Your Majesty, as your closest partner in trade, it seems only fitting that I offer you your first dance as queen." He bows over and his toupee falls forward :-D Elsa says she doesn't dance, and hands over Anna instead :-) So yeah, Anna's stuck with the Duke and his bizarre dancing, as he asks why Arendelle ever shut its gates in the first place, and Anna doesn't have an answer. Anna is subject to more awkwardly weird dancing: "Hang on. They don’t call me the little dipper for nothing... Like a chicken...with the face of a monkey...I fly." :-D

As Anna returns, Elsa makes a comment on the Duke's dancing: "Well, he was sprightly." Anna: "Especially for a man in heels." Anna gets back to bonding with her big sister: "This is so nice. I wish it could be like this all the time." Elsa: "Me too...." However, Elsa knows different and bluntly adds: "But it can’t." Anna: "Why not?..." Elsa: "It just can’t."

Anna is sad about this and decides to leave, and as she's making her way out of the room, she gets hit by some guy's butt :-D Guess who's there to catch her? ;-) Hans: "Glad I caught you :-)"

Hans dances with Anna, and this leads into a cutesy courtship montage, where we see the adorably clumsy Anna accidentally slap Hans in the face :-D We find out that Anna has been led to believe that she was born with the white streak in her hair... "although I dreamt I was kissed by a troll" :-) Later, we and Anna learn that Hans has 12 older brothers. Hans: "Three of them pretended I was invisible... literally...for two years." Anna: "That’s horrible." Hans: "It’s what brothers do." Anna: "And sisters. Elsa and I were really close when we were little. But then, one day she just shut me out, and I never knew why." Hans: "I would never shut you out." Mark those words :-)

And this leads into yet another number, Love is an Open Door. This one's more pop than the rest of the songs in the film, and there's some very subtle lyrical foreshadowing going on, but you're probably too busy plotzing at Hans and Anna's cutesy whirlwind courtship to notice... At one point, they "do the robot" with the dancing figures on the clock tower :-D

Trivia: One of the animators at WDAS, Hyrum Osmond snuck in a reference to his quite famous uncle... Donny "I'll Make a Man Out of You" Osmond :-)

The song ends with Anna and Hans framing their hands around the full moon. I... may or may not have framed my own hands with them :-) Hans: "Can I say something crazy? Will you marry me?" Anna: "Can I just say something even crazier?... Yes :-)"

Back at the after-party, Anna and Hans make their way over to Elsa, and after she introduces him to the queen, they cutely finish each other's sandwiches, I mean, sentences :-) Anna: "We would like--" Hans: "--your blessing--" Anna: "--of--" Both: "--our marriage!" Elsa: "Marriage?..."

They talk about their wedding plans and how she plans to accommodate his brothers, but Elsa quickly shoots it down: "No one’s brothers are staying here. No one is getting married." Anna: "Wait, what?" Elsa: "May I talk to you, please. Alone." Anna refuses to leave Hans' side: "No. Whatever you have to say, you can say to both of us." Elsa: "Fine. You can’t marry a man you just met." Which is a pretty interesting piece of advice, not only because of how quick your typical Disney princess courtship has been, but also because of what (was implied to have) happened to Idina's Enchanted character...

Anyways, Anna replies that "You can if it’s true love." Elsa: "Anna, what do you know about true love?" Anna: "More than you. All you know is how to shut people out." Elsa still doesn't approve of her little sister's impending marriage: "You asked for my blessing, but my answer is no. Now, excuse me." Hans wants to talk to Elsa, but she shoots him down too... and as she passes a servant, she tells him: "The party is over. Close the gates." Anna's startled by the announcement and rushes over to Elsa, and accidentally pulls off her left glove... Uh-oh...

Elsa wants her glove back, but Anna responds: "Elsa, please. Please. I can’t live like this anymore." Elsa: "Then leave." Elsa turns to walk out of the room... and it's too much for Anna: "What did I ever do to you?!" Elsa: "Enough, Anna..." Anna keeps pestering her sis: "No. Why? Why do you shut me out?! Why do you shut the world out?! What are you so afraid of?!" Elsa's really riled up by now and answers: "I said, enough!" swiping her ungloved hand across... and casting up a bunch of spiked icicles on the floor between herself and everyone else :-0

Everyone's in utter shock, especially Anna. Duke: "Sorcery. I knew there was something dubious going on here." Elsa, also utterly shocked, decides to leave the room... and ends up running into the crowded courtyard.

The throngs of people who have come to see the queen leaves her flustered to say the least, and she ends up backing into a fountain with her ungloved hand, covering the fountain in spiked ice and freezing the water in it :-0 The Duke and his people come out and yell after Elsa. Elsa: "Please, just stay away from me." Her ungloved hand fires her magic at the stairs they're standing on, blasting them away, prompting Duke to call her a monster :-0 and prompting Elsa to keep running...

Snow is beginning to fall, as Elsa makes her way to the waterfront, with Anna and Hans in pursuit. Elsa gradually backs onto the shore, and then she notices that the shore has frozen under her feet. She decides to try it with the fjord, and that works, so she runs across the water to the other side, leaving Anna, still holding Elsa's glove and slipping on the ice, in utter despair... and that's not the worst part, as Hans notices the whole fjord freezing up, and we get an awesome bird's eye view of this happening.

Back in the courtyard, Anna is shivering as she returns with Hans, while the citizens of Arendelle are puzzled by the sudden snowfall. Hans asks Anna whether she knew about this and she says no. The Duke continues to vilify Elsa and asks if Anna is a monster too, but Anna reassures him that she's ordinary (Hans: "In the best way" :-)) Anna tells the Duke that Elsa is not a monster, and decides to go look for her, so she asks for her horse, and leaves Hans in charge. Hans asks if she's not afraid of Elsa, and Anna answers: "She's my sister. She would never hurt me." Anna rides off, so good luck!

So, let's take stock of our character traits for Elsa so far... She's a girl with an inherent "defect" about her, which makes her perceived as dangerous, especially by Alan Tudyk...

Starting to sound familiar? :-)

We pan to the frozen fountain before fading to a snowstorm for a good 10 seconds, as if the movie's saying "Hey everyone, get ready for THAT SONG!" ;-) Let It Go not only is the film's most iconic number, but also, thanks to Idina's awesome performance, played a major role in shaping Elsa and the film around her into the way they are... it's that great of a song :-)

The snowclouds part to reveal a snowy mountain, where Elsa is walking, as those now-iconic opening piano chords play... We gradually zoom in on Elsa in an unbroken near-minute long shot as she sings about her "kingdom of isolation" (with a subtle emphasis on the "ice" part ;-) )

With the realization that her secret is out, she tosses the other glove into the wind and starts using her powers freely, even building herself a snowman like the one she built that fateful night... before taking off her coronation cape, letting it fly into the wind as she sings the now famous lyric: "The cold never bothered me anyway."

Elsa walks over towards a chasm singing: "It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small, and the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all." She decides to test her limits by creating a lengthy staircase across the chasm, and she sings the familiar refrain as she creates and races up the staircase all the way to the other side, before authoritatively stomping on the snow and forming a giant snowflake shape... the same snowflake shape shown in the opening; her special snowflake, if you will :-)

We spend the bridge watching Elsa raise that snowflake and create herself a castle, in an unbroken half-minute shot, replete with an icy chandelier (this will be important) before singing: "I'm never going back; the past is in the past!" The number climaxes with Elsa completely divorcing herself from the past... letting it go, if you will, by tossing her tiara, untying her bob hair to reveal a singular side braid, and most prominently, using her ice magic to cover her coronation dress with ice crystals to create her iconic blue dress (with a new cape for good measure :-)), before walking out to the balcony of her newly-built castle... and we see a wide daytime shot of the castle, showing it's quite a sight... She finishes by reaffirming that "The cold never bothered me anyway", then turning away and slamming the balcony doors... Utter musical brilliance :-)

Coming up next: Anna finally meets reindeer dude :-)
