2x21: Charmix Power / Trouble in Paradise

Volleyball. While the other Winx are playing, Layla is gathering firewood, while Stella is just sitting on a mat.

Unedited: The first thing Stella asks Layla is why she isn't playing... "It's right up your alley..."

Edited: The first thing Stella asks Layla is when they're going to the hotel.

Night time. Sky is guarding the tent while talking with Bloom.

Unedited: He exposits to the tone of, "There are noises out here, and it's too bad because it would have been romantic out here tonight." And he delivers it in a way that makes me think of his "We'd implode" line from 2x05.

Edited: He explains stuff about some animals guarding their mates through the night. Blech.

Layla finds out about the divorce of Stella's parents and later, Stella wants to talk with Layla.

Unedited: Layla wants Stella to send a postcard to her parents. Stella says, "Give me a few minutes..." Bloom tells Layla about her parents' divorce. Later, Layla cries in the forest. Gist: "I didn't know that Stella's parents were divorced. I don't know anything about them at all!" Bloom is preparing the fashion show that Stella had suggested the day before, and is surprised that she herself won't be participating. Stella invites Layla to participate in the show as well as part of her talk. Back at the beach, Bloom still thinks it's strange that Stella didn't participate in the show she had suggested.

Edited: Layla wants Stella to send a postcard to her parents. Stella says, "It's postcards Layla. My parents are separated." Bloom adds that it's been tough for her the last few years. Later, Layla cries in the forest. In a scene shorter than the original: "I guess I'm terrible at friendships." Later, Bloom is surprised that Stella doesn't want to do a makeover on Tecna, as Stella goes off to find Layla. Stella just wants to be friends with her. Back at the beach, they're talking about how Layla seems to hide her feelings all the time.

In either case, what Layla is lamenting makes no sense considering how good she is with Musa, and if anything, Stella is among those she HASN'T really bonded with. Not knowing about the divorce of her parents shouldn't be an issue. Heck, guys who tuned in during S2 wouldn't have known until now. So why's she being so hard on herself?
(NB: As for Stella being upfront about her divorce in 4Kids, while Layla only visibly reacts when Bloom explains to her about the divorce, 4Kids just adds voiceover of Layla saying "I'm sorry, I didn't know" over the shot of Stella walking away from the others to make it look like she's reacting to this reveal in a timely fashion)

Unedited: Stella and Layla comment that the Charmix looks like a handheld mirror. Stella says, "My Charmix knows me well!" We get both a regular transformation followed by a Charmix transformation, and her attacks seem to be mirror-based.

Edited: There are no comments about the Charmix looking like a mirror, and Stella now says, "I totally got a Charmix!" We go into the Winx-to-Charmix transformation straight from her casuals, and the sequence is actually preceded by a proper transformation phrase ("Go Charmix!") (Meanwhile in the unedited, lately all transformation sequences have been preceded with "Magic Winx!" They've done this since S1, but they're consistent about it now. Personally, I think that while leaving out the convention of a transformation phrase makes Winx different, Winx doesn't have to be different about this convention.)
(NB: It's a major part and parcel of the magical girls genre, but TF thought the girls saying "Magic Winx" was lame [!])

Responses:

TF, with a rare moment of appreciation for the original version: He explains stuff about some animals guarding their mates through the night. Blech.

Not a romantic, huh? I thought that line was cute.
I wish we'd had the Charmix mirror bit left in. I like that.

I actually pointed out Stella's Charmix was mirror while I was still at the LJ community, as part of a different episode's discussion, when TF noted that "Musa and Tecna have the only Charmix brooches that actually look like anything":

Me: In our version, Stella's brooch is meant to be a mirror (Stella comments, "My Charmix knows me well!")

TF: Ohhhhhhh, a mirror! I like that! It's extremely stylized, but I could see a mirror. I still think Stella's got the second best Charmix.
(NB: I think she considered Musa's her number-one, it certainly wouldn't have been Bloom, whose Charmix she thought made her look like a teenybopper at the mall LOL.)

Meanwhile, here's a side-by-side comparison of the two versions of the tent dialog, and in hindsight, looks like TF had a point about it being cute:

Orig4Kids
Bloom comes out of the tent to see Sky guarding the tent
Sky: Herglasaurs. According to our recon, they only eat plants, nothing to worry about, ma'am.
BloomWhat is that? Are they, umm, (cut to Sky) saying anything?
SkyI have no idea.I don't speak herglasaur.
BloomSky, there's something about it that just doesn't feel right. They sound so sad and lonely, I wonder why.
SkyToo bad. It would've been romantic out here.Maybe they just miss the ones they love.
Bloom smirks at Sky's comment
SkyDon't worry Bloom, I'll keep guard for the night. And if anything happens, I'll wake you up. You'll be the first to know. You know I read somewhere that the male herglasaur stands guard to make sure that the female herglasaur can get a good night's sleep.
BloomYou're going to stay up all night? He stays up all night?
SkyI'll be okay. This vacation is for you, so go get some rest, okay?He likes it because he knows the one he cares about is happy, safe, and peaceful.
Bloom returns to the tent
Bloom: Good night, Sky.
SkySweet dreams, Bloom. You sleep tight, Bloom.
