Inspired by this thread about new rules for TV, I've decided to do some new rules for Winx based on the first 7 eps of the current season. Some of these could actually apply to television as a whole.

New rules:

1. If a character is so obviously jumping to conclusions on something, other characters need to give her a reality check, especially when it becomes obvious to the viewer that her conclusion may be far off the mark.
2. A woman has the right be PO'd at her dad in public if he's letting the whole world know he's marrying a woman you know is a total jerkweed. No fake congratulations, please.
3. From now on, a moratorium against would-be-stepmoms who hate their stepchildren-to-be and/or are gold-diggers. All would-be-stepmoms are now required to genuinely be in love with the father. Loatheful and power-hungry stepsisters, however, are still allowed.
4. No ridiculous plot inconsistencies regarding spells and magic power levels, please.
5. Also, no more general bashing is allowed. For example, you are no longer allowed to assume all witches are evil or all men are shallow.
6. Power boosts earned will carry over from season to season. No more dropping a power boost out of use at the end of a season as if it had never existed. (Especially when some of the characters have hardly had the chance to use said power boost.)
7. If significant time is spent with a character having earned a new power, said power shall come into play in the next battle.
8. Villains shall no longer have subpar performances in battles.
9. If the plot hinges on one character being brave for once, it shall not include a situation where it would have been bad to be brave. Corollary: Not acting does not equal cowardice, and should not be treated as such.
10. Characters have a right to feel bad about themselves for making a sacrifice.
11. If an episode takes place in a one charater's homeland, that character must get star time in that episode.
12. Sacrifices should not boomerang, unless done well. Winx is an okay example. By "boomerang", I mean a character earns something, and it can be traced back to said character sacrificing that very thing. In Winx's example: Layla, despite the need to be healed, uses a healing staff on Ligea instead of herself --> Layla gets her Enchantix --> FG tells Layla that her Enchantix fairy dust can heal her --> It does.

1. Maybe not all the characters should give her a reality check, but at least one should be intelligent enough to be the voice of reason. Would have been good for Tecna to do that.

2. The problem is that Stella doesn't know for sure that Cassandra is bad. She just doesn't like her because she's not her mother and she's biased. Cassandra, of course, is actually a bitch, but she might not be. Also, it wouldn't have been becoming of a princess to pitch a tantrum in front of the court. What kind of behavior is that from the future ruler?

3. Agreed.

4. Ditto.

5. Yeah, generalizations bite.

6. Seven eps with no Charmix use is silly.

7. Or the reason for not using it will be at least muttered under the breath of the character.

8. Not unless they're consistently subpar. But crap fighting after good fighting is stupid.

9. Agreed.

10. But not excessively so. I hate self pity, especially when something inordinately good has happened to go along with the bad.

11. She kinda did, just not as drastically as Stella.

12. Agreed.

6. Seven eps with no Charmix use is silly.

Thirteen eps with only 2 Charmix uses is worse. Bloom? Everyone else has had their Charmix for less time than you, and yet they've all used theirs more. I'll give that you were Dark Bloom for a while, but still.

7. If significant time is spent with a character having earned a new power, said power shall come into play in the next battle.

Not related to this season, but... Corollary: If significant time is spent introducing a new spell, it shall be shown to be effective at least once. (Because what use is wasting time on a new spell if it never works?)

10. But not excessively so. I hate self pity, especially when something inordinately good has happened to go along with the bad.

Unrelated to this season corollary: If a character is lamenting, it should make sense. Layla on the log? You still have Musa.

Bonus rule: A character shall not make a comment about not changing her much-loved hairstyle in one episode, and change it anyway later. Musa? You best stay away from Wizardpalooza until you get a haircut.

(Because of the theme song, I'll call this the "Don't Touch The Hair" rule ;) )

And another bonus rule for the doll makers: If a character excels at singing, and you're making singing dolls, you shall release that character first. Not second, not third, and so totally not last. A simultaneous release is allowed.

Late reply!

7. Or the reason for not using it will be at least muttered under the breath of the character.

Corollary: when the new power is similar to that of the opponents' (either in form or nature), there will be no reason whatsoever not to use it.

(This applies to "Fire and Ice" as well, BTW.)
