Here's an motivational poster with a tale of its own (and thus, warrants its own post).

A few days ago, I exchanged a few emails with Lori (who runs her own excellent WC community at

winx_club, BTW), and I discussed a simple topic: Why doesn't Musa just tell her dad about her powers being from music? Lori's response was essentially, "We can't have things being made that easy." (Okay, I exchanged those emails a few months before, and revisited them a few days ago. So?) I cited a few other instances of things being made harder than they should be: Flora dealing with the ice crusher in 2x24 (now immortalized as "I'm sorry, but that's just dumb"), and Helia's useless stunt in 2x08. (And I also theorized that the long way worked because we learned about Musa's past that way.) Lori replied with this entertaining read:

Well, there's a difference between doing small elements the easy way and doing an entire episode the easy way.

Musa vs. Dad: The Easy Way

Dad: No music for you EVER! You stoppit or you come home!
Musa: Er, Dad, you know I'm a fairy, right?
Dad: Of course.
Musa: And all fairies have a power source?
Dad: Yes.
Musa: Well, mine is music, yo.
Dad: Oh. Well...then...I guess that's that. I'll have to just shut up and get over my obnoxiously childish hangup.
*Musa and Dad stand around and twiddle thumbs for the rest of the episode*

Musa could still have had the conflict with Stormy, but it wouldn't have been as dramatic. Musa's also not the best talker in the group when it comes to personal issues. So in this case the hard way works because otherwise the episode would have been a lot less dramatic.It's not entirely illogical for her to not tell him either, seeing as she has a track record for not being open about herself.

I mucked with her "script" a bit, and created this (well, this is after some more editing):

Musa vs. Dad: The Half-Easy, Half-Hard Way
Dad: No music for you EVER! You stoppit or you come home!
Musa: Er, Dad, you know I'm a fairy, right?
Dad: Of course.
Musa: And all fairies have a power source?
Dad: So?
Musa: Well, mine is music, yo.
Dad: Music? Is your power source? Well, it's a really pathetic power source at that! Honestly, couldn't you have had something else? (Storms off)
Musa: (yelling at dad as he storms off) Well, at least it's not flowers!
(Layla comes in)
Layla: I thought your dad was a musician. Why would he be so mad about music?
(Cue flashback)
(And later, after the Stormy conflict, dad can be all, "I guess music's not a pathetic power source after all...")

But eh, we get what we get, and I eventually accepted that the long way around makes this episode work. So...
