The Amazing Race All-Stars: Episodes 5-6
Apr. 2nd, 2007 08:59 amInternet troubles galore at my uni, meaning that my online time was pretty limited. But anyways, here are thoughts on the 5th and 6th episodes of TAR All Stars, and the final two eps of Treasure Hunters.
TAR All Stars 5-6:
1. Finally, we're out of South America, but first, let's go find some avalanche beacons. Toughie for Danny and Oswald, who'd just finished the previous leg in first.
2. Good thing everyone's just got bunched on the same 9:40am flight then, eh? Maputo, here we come!
3. First up (after another bunch, of course) is a Roadblock, which doesn't really require input from the Roadblocker: have a rat find a deactivated mine. SERIOUSLY!
4. And then, let's read together the Detour: Either fill bags of coal or paint nails. Nail painting's surprisingly easy, such that Charla and Mirna are first. Once again: SERIOUSLY! Meanwhile, Danny and Oswald are 4th place (first from the coal-filling task), and they're going after Phil. It's very funny. Really. (Meanwhile, Dustin and Kandice give someone a free manicure, how cute.)
5. Last place are Uchenna and Joyce, who are now marked for elimination.
6. Next port of call, Dar Es Salaam (cue REALLY cheap Tasmanian devil joke!). Who'd ever have thought that it'd be so hard to get flights from Maputo to there? Standby, standby, throw Eric and Danielle off the plane, standby some more...
7. ...while Charla and Mirna wait out the "weather" (Need we say it? SERIOUSLY!) before heading to Zanzibar on a dhow. (Edit of the year: nice music, then record scratch to show Charla puking.)
8. Nice scene on the bench with Oswald and Danny. Between that and hand modeling the first clue... Playing for the cameras, much?
9. Finally, we get to the Detour: put together a puzzle or drag some logs. When I heard the puzzle it sounded really difficult, but it ended up being more like a glorified baby's "put the thing in the hole" kind of puzzle.
10. While Oswald and Danny stop for fruit, Mirna throws sticks at masks as the Roadblock. Finally, another first place finish, but they're not so sure what a catamaran is. These two eppies sure are bringing out the funny...
11. Finally, after what seemed like forever, everyone else eventually gets to Zanzibar, with a bunch of kids getting enthusiastic about Uchenna throwing sticks (eventually arriving, and finishing, 3rd... yep, marked for elimination didn't mean a thing for them!), and Joe and Bill edging out Teri and Ian to eliminate the latter... the morning AFTER. Good luck Guidos... you're going to need it.
Finally, last two eps of Treasure Hunters.
1. So we head to the Library of Congress, where everyone's looking for certain books to find a hidden book on the Star Spangled Banner. Off to the old printing press! (And the Southies don't even bother with the card catalog.)
2. So everyone's using the artifacts they got from the previous legs (why am I having a flashback to the Winx S2 finale?), to print out a map to Fort McHenry in Baltimore. Cue everyone driving around and getting directions!
3. Finally, we get to some boat in the bay, with the Geniuses in first. They get a small token with a star on it, but the treasure still isn't here, so they have to go find the former site of some other fort. After a while, it turns out that a factory called Key Industries is on that site.
4. Eventually, the Geniuses use their star token to open a door to some secret chamber. Now, off to find the five letter code to open the Cryptex! (While Genworth does one last photoshopping saying "The key is free.")
5. One ep later, the other teams are in the chamber too. Stupid bunching! Finally, the Geniuses win after using "F.S. Key" as the key (ha-ha, what a clever pun </sarcasm>). Now, on to the live reunion show...
6. ...featuring hilarious Hanlon footage, some words with the Fogals on Fogaling (they actually LET Air Force beat them in the British church), and a special $100,000 mini-hunt (ooh, wheelchair lady!). Eventually, the mini-hunt's pretty anticlimactic as first place's pretty far ahead towards the end. (No, it's not the wheelchair lady, she got eliminated early.)
7. The ex-CIA's think that they wouldn't have suffered the hometown curse. Hmm...
8. Geniuses won $3 million, with the usual annuity strings attached. Wonder if there'll be a S2?
