This week, Flora and Tecna get their Enchantix. Plus, we get to see Flora's realm. As for Tecna's... well, you don't really want to know. All this, plus news from the Winx world, on WinxTalk Podcast #15 with your host SpiderBraids.
Previously on Winx Club, Faragonda fought Baltor and got turned into a tree. "Tears of the Black Willow" sees the Winx heading off to Flora's home realm Linphea to fix that problem, by retrieving water from a magical stream. I'll let the story explain itself...
[Linphea's sage tells the Winx about the Black Willow and reversing time with its tears]
The coolest part about heading to Flora's home realm? We get to see what it looks like. AND we find out that Flora's got family. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Flora's little sister Rose, AKA Miele.
[The girls arrive in Linphea and meet Rose]
Anyways, it happens that the Trix are also there to prevent the Winx from saving their dear headmistress with that water of theirs, even going as far as poisoning the stream.
[After Icy attacks Stella's goblet, Darcy then poisons the stream. Flora spars off with Darcy, and gets hit by Icy. Rose jumps in to save Flora from the Trix's next blast and winds up in the stream]
So, Flora dives in to save her baby sis and drowns doing so.
[Stormy mocks Flora drowning, but then Flora gets her Enchantix and flies out of the stream]
With her new powers, she not only re-purifies the stream but also revives the willow, so that it throws the Trix into the stream and turns them into kids. Cue cheesy line...
[Bloom threatens to spank the KidTrix]
Lori reviews.
(BZZ)
Solid episode! I didn't get annoyed with anyone except Bloom when she did that lame spanking line.
I loved Darcy in this ep. Her hands-on fighting style kicked ass, she replicated AND she killed the willow. Definitely a sweet, sweet Darcy episode. Icy and Stormy were great, too, but not as great as Darcy, who also easily had the best lines. ["Ugh, you sound like Bloom."] Classic.
Rose: Surprisingly not annoying. I liked her a lot. I really want to see Flora's parents, since these two don't look much alike. I also approve of the name change. It suits her better.
Flora: Also surprisingly not annoying. I really liked her in this ep. She was just the right mix of take charge, kick butt and sweet. Too bad she's not like this more often. Her Enchantix sacrifice, while just another "I'll die to save you," was really well done. She actually looked dead for a few seconds.
(BZZ)
Lastly, for the 2nd week in a row, Lori chides a character for not transforming. Last week, it was Mirta. This week, it's Stella.
(BZZ)
Stella: Why didn't Stella transform? She's more powerful in Enchantix form and she could have flown over the water and scooped it up more easily. Not real bright on her part.

"Point of No Return" is after the news.
(News sting)
And now, news from the Winx world.
In ratings news, Cynopsis reports that the "Tears of the Black Willow" episode scored 0.5 point and 3 share.
Michael Grants reports that season 2 of Winx, released about a month ago on DVD, is now also available for rent at NetFlix.
Michael also reports that both Finland and the Netherlands have acquired season 3 of Winx. It started in Finland on April Fools' Day, and will start in the Netherlands on the 7th of April.
And that's news, from the Winx world.
(News end sting)
"Point of No Return" has the Winx heading back to Tides, this time to close the portal to the Omega Dimension that Baltor has opened. You'll remember from the season premiere that Baltor escaped to Tides via this portal. As it turns out, it could destroy both realms...
[Baltor talks about cancelling out Tides and the Omega Dimension]
After Layla cures some mermonsters with her fairy dust, the girls have a go at trying to close the portal to save the realm. Even the elder who built the portal, Tebok, gets involved, as he has the Winx converge their magic on his ancient scrolls. But after the portal pulls in the scrolls, Tebok declares that the portal has to be closed from the inside, and anyone brave enough to do this would be forever trapped in the Omega Dimension. Tecna decides to sacrifice herself for this purpose.
[Tebok says of Tecna's sacrifice that this is her destiny, as Tecna enters the portal and uses her fairy dust to force her way in to close it from the inside, getting herself trapped in the process. The Winx mourn, and Musa's taking it the hardest]
So Tecna's earned her Enchantix. Yeah, I know. We haven't even seen anyone from her realm, much less the realm itself. Wha???
Lori isn't too happy about this.
(BZZ)
Not too much to say about this one. We're left with a few interesting points and unanswered questions.
Why could Tecna close the portal, but not Bloom and Layla? Sure, it might be her destiny, but there should have been a more technical reason that she was stronger than the other two, like that pesky half-android thing.
(BZZ)
[1x05: Tecna: "Good night girls, I'm going to switch myself off now"]
As for the question that's on everyone's lips, here's her take...
(BZZ)
Why did Tecna get her Enchantix? There was no one from her realm on Tides that we knew of, so she didn't sacrifice anything for someone from her homeland. She made a huge sacrifice, yes, but is that enough to negate the "save someone from home realm" rule? I'm mad because we didn't get to see Tec's realm or even meet someone from it.
(BZZ)
I'm seconding Lori on the whole "Tec's realm no-show" thing. It was the realm that would have seemed most interesting to see. I mean, you've got all things digital on one end, and all things magical on the other. Considering the whole Enchantix deal seemed conductive to getting to see everyone's realms, we're getting screwed big-time here.
Chalk this up as the biggest disappointment of the season. Now, back to the review.
(BZZ)
So Tecna got to play the hero, but now she's gone. It sucks that this couldn't happen to one of the stronger characters like Bloom, Stella, Flora or even Layla. Tecna is probably the most unpopular of the Winx amongst the target age group and that's because they know next to nothing about her. Now they're getting rid of her and, while I doubt it's permanent, we're definitely going to go a few eps without her. That's how these things usually work. It's nice to see someone other than Bloom do something hugely heroic, but I wish we could have had a few Bloom-free episodes. We know she's gonna play a huge role in the final Baltor conflict. It's her destiny. So it would have been nice to have some time when she wasn't around. *sigh* But at least this season is better about not having her hog the spotlight.
(BZZ)
Next week, the Tecna-less Winx decide to take out their frustration on Baltor.
For now though, that's it for another edition. As usual, you can leave comments at my blog at spiderbraids.livejournal.com and the Yahoo! Winx group at tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/winx. See you in two weeks, and thanks for listening.
