This week, Stella literally loses face as part of the effort to defeat Baltor, and Ophir has a dirty little secret to share. Plus, news from the Winx world, on WinxTalk Podcast #20, with your host SpiderBraids.
You may notice some acoustic differences in the audio for this edition. This is because I'm recording this podcast with a different microphone from the normal.
Anyways, we begin with "The Crystal Labyrinth", and we pick up where we left off last time, with Riven getting teed at Ophir after seeing him with Musa in a video. Let's pick up on the action, shall we?
(Ophir-Riven fight! After a while, it's made known that Ophir had nothing to do with everyone getting injured and that Ophir is more interested in Layla than Musa. Layla's quite impressed with Ophir's moves)
Now that we've cleared up the air on all this, time to resume the actual plot where we left off, with the inscription on the door to the Golden Kingdom.
(Long inscription short, the Winx have to make themselves pure first. Everyone shrinks themselves with their fairy dust, except for Bloom, because her Enchantix is incomplete)
Well, an excuse to leave Bloom out of the proceedings. This ought to be interesting...
(Golden Kingdom: The girls meet Arcadia, the fairy of the Golden Kingdom. Long story short, she decides to send three of them into the titular Crystal Labyrinth, and she'll give them the Water Stars if they come out)
So, Tecna, Stella, and Musa are in the labyrinth. Tecna ends up facing a very difficult decision.
(Tecna is told that she has to give up her emotions to reach the exit of the labyrinth. As hard as it is for her to give up Timmy, she obliges)
While the girls are in the Crystal Labryinth, the Trix decide to pay Bloom and the other guys a visit. Naturally, Icy takes on Bloom.
(Icy wipes out Bloom's powers with some kind of dust, and attacks her. Sky shoves Bloom out of the way)
Back in the labyrinth, it's Stella's turn to face a difficult decision.
(Stella looks at two mirrors. She freaks out at the non-face she sees in one of them. Of course, that's the one she has to go through)
Okay, now Musa's turn.
(Arcadia tells Musa that because time loops back on itself in the labyrinth, everything that has ever existed, exists here. So Musa's looking at her late mother in one door, but she has to go through the other. Just before she does, mom says, "I'm proud of you")
So, all three girls have made it out of the labyrinth, at some cost. Hello, Water Stars!
(The girls get their Water Stars. Stella has lost her face, and Tecna's voice is COMPLETELY devoid of any emotion. But then, Arcadia says that Tecna is not much fun being a by-the-numbers girl, and doesn't have any reason why anyone else should have to look at Stella's non-face, and so nullifies their sacrifices, leaving only Musa's: "I can't give you back your mother, but I do she'll always live inside of you." She then opens a portal back to the outside)
My reaction to all this is "Wha...?" I mean, the threesome just made some major sacrifices, and two of them ended up just getting nullified, and the one that wasn't was the one sacrifice that didn't majorly shake-up the status quo. I'd PAY to see Tecna have to get through the rest of the season, and the upcoming movie, without any emotion. And I'm pretty sure someone out there would have loved to see Stella have to keep her non-face.
And besides, if they really wanted to treat the sacrifices all equally, they could have just made Musa lose her voice. For that matter, sacrifices like these would have given some variety to the Enchantix sacrifices. Seeing someone sacrifice herself gets old the 2nd time.
Okay, rant over. Let's just finish the episode. Anyways, it's a good thing that the others have just come out of the maze when they did, because Icy was just getting ready to put the finishing touches on Bloom, if you know what I mean.
(Icy starts to taunt Bloom and her lack of powers, but then here come her friends, who give Icy an earful, then defeat her with convergence)
Another textbook example of why villains should spend less time with the taunting and more time with the killing.
(The Winx girls talk about having their Water Stars. I should note that Bloom says that Musa, Stella and Layla risked everything to get these, but Layla didn't go into the maze. And she also specifically says that there are THREE stars, yet in the next episode, there are SIX)
Good luck girls, you'll need it.
Lori doesn't have a real review of the episode, but she did leave these thoughts on the girls' sacrifices:
BZZ
If Stella had actually sacrificed her life to save her father, that would have been enough for me. It's not really clear if she died then came back thanks to Enchantix. But Musa and Tecna were cop-outs, so yay for sacrifice. Stella's is predictable. Tecna's is awesome. She could have lost her brains, but her human feelings? Much better! So I wonder if that means she is part android? Hmm. Musa's is just creepy. Her mom's dead. She's been dead a long time. She needs to stay that way.

"The Wizards' Challenge" is after the news.
(News sting)
And now, news from the Winx world.
Winx season 3 continues its worldwide spread. It premiered all over South East Asia on Cartoon Network on September the 2nd, and Michael reports that it also started on the Channel 10 "Toasted TV" block in Australia.
According to ratings reports from Cynopsis, Winx scored 0.5 and 4 share with "The Golden Kingdom" on August 18th. "The Crystal Labyrinth" fared slightly better the following week, with a 0.6 and 5 share.
Michael reports that at the official site for the upcoming Winx movie, the trailer had been reverted back to the earlier teaser trailer, with English subtitles. See it at www.winxclubthemovie.com.
And that's news from the Winx world.
(End news sting)
On to "The Wizards' Challenge". We begin with the Winx girls discussing how to make the Water Stars work.
(The Winx talk about both prom and beating Baltor. They decide to deal with the Water Stars first. Long story short, Bloom can activate them with the dragon fire, but if they can destroy Baltor, they could do the same to her)
Meanwhile, Baltor is sulking. Yes, you heard that right.
(Baltor sulks that the Company of Light seems to be forming again. He briefly considers zapping himself, but then decides he needs to get more spells with his box)
So, while the Winx girls and their boys are all enjoying a night out at the disco (I mean, seriously!), he decides to strike. Baltor uses a strong magical illusion to draw the headmasters out of their respective schools to fight, while the real Baltor takes on the fairies at Alfea. Naturally, the Water Stars come into play.
(Bloom decides to activate the Water Stars, and use a Dragon Essence attack. This gives both Bloom and Baltor some serious hurt. However, Bloom stops short of killing Baltor outright because not only is he a link to her parents, according to him, he _absorbed_ her parents... SERIOUSLY! So Baltor makes his escape)
Anyways, after the Baltor fight, they, uh, decide to go back to the disco. Yeah, I know. But it's for a good reason, because Ophir has a thing to reveal...
(Ophir actually is Nabu, as in the guy Layla is supposed to marry. Long story short, Nabu didn't like the idea of arranged marriage either, so he ran off to Alfea to see what Layla was like. Later, Nabu and Layla's parents both agree that the arranged marriage is wrong and they can choose who to love, but they wouldn't mind if Layla chooses Nabu anyway. Which she seems to be doing. Stella: "Ophir and Layla sounded good, but Nabu and Layla... that sounds royal!")
Wow. Just wow.
Lori reviews.
BZZ
I didn't think too much of this episode. "We've got a major problem to solve, but gee, we really need to go shopping and dancing!" Nice priorities, girls.
And Baltor messes with people once again and once again they fall for it. Does no one ever learn? And Ophir turns out to be Nabu, Layla's arranged marriage buddy. Gee, didn't see that one coming.
Yeah, not impressed by this one. Hopefully, the final eps will give us something better.
BZZ
Next week, Bloom decides to see if Baltor was telling the truth about her parents. Time to visit "The Witches' Crypt".
Since we're down to the final 3 episodes of Winx, we'll just lump them all together in a single podcast, so we'll see you in _three_ weeks. Until then, you can leave comments at my blog at spiderbraids.livejournal.com, or at the Forever_Winx group at Yahoo, groups.yahoo.com/group/forever_winx. Thanks for listening.
