Winx Club: 3x02: Valtor's Mark
Sep. 16th, 2007 09:04 amAnd now, another summary. Plus other things, after the summary.
Andros. It's stormy. A mermaid named Serena and some other mermaid are clinging to each other for dear life, when a pink shield shields from a huge wave like we just saw at Magix beach. It's princess Layla of course, and she takes the two of them to a transport that's passing by. "You guys, take care of these mermaids. I'm going back to see if there are others. Something's definitely happening in the sea of Andros. Something dark... something terrible."
Under the sea, a few mermaids are under attack from... other mermaid monsters. "Corelia, they don't hear us anymore. They're not themselves. Something's changed them." And guess who comes in to provide a little exposition? "Not something, mermaid. But rather someone's changed them. And that someone is me, Valtor. They wear my mark. It means that they belong to me, and now you too will be mine." And so, the mermaids get marked.
Icy: "Way to give those goody-goody mermaids what they deserved." Stormy is pretty impressed at Valtor. "First you bursted out of the Omega Dimension, then you turned Andros into your own personal playground, and now you found the interdimensional portal? Neat. The two of us, well, I mean the four of us are going to go far" "Yes, farther than you could ever imagine." Ah, the days when they hinted at Stormy having a crush on Valtor. Why didn't they ever advance that "plotline", I wonder?
Anyways, Valtor exposits. Long story short, prison's made him weak, so he's going to go regain his powers so he can take over the whole universe. "To regain my full power, I need the magic of the kingdom of the sun, and lucky for me, the sun always shines on Solaria." Valtor heads off. Cue tunnel effects! Hands up if anyone hummed the Doctor Who theme...
Alfea. Tecna can't contact Layla at all, and Bloom says "Good try" in a more sincere manner than you'd normally hear this phrase. Back in the room, everyone notes Layla's absence, and while Kiko and the pixie pets are getting sneaky, Stella says, "She's (Layla) not going to miss the party of the century." Bloom: "But my birthday isn't until... Oh, you meant YOUR party" "DUH, my princess ball is tomorrow, remember?" Stella throws a pillow at Bloom and says, "Bloom don't you ever do that again. Some things are way too important to joke about, and my party is one of them." Then she notices the pixie pets in her hat box. "And as for as you're concerned, the answer is no, you can't come!" Well, Stella's ready to go. Musa: "We'll catch up with you later, we still have a couple of things to do here." Stella: "Well, just don't keep me waiting too long." Stella's shrunk her bags, and Bloom is ready. Stella summons her scepter from her ring. Hey, Stella's ring, we kinda missed you.
Trippy transporting portal thingy!
Solaria. And here's Stella's dad! Stella hugs, and then throws her shrunk bag over to the portman. "Be careful, they're very delicate." The bag promptly expands back into the complete set. CLOMP! Sucks to be him.
Bloom: "Your Majesty..." "Oh, forget Your Majesty, call me King Radius. Bloom, you are most welcome here. Stella has talked a lot about you. Make yourself at home." Bloom: "I'll do my best, even though my house is about 100 rooms smaller." Hee! Stella will be showing Bloom to her room, but first, she's giving her the grand tour.
Cue medium-sized sequence where the two visit lots of parts of the palace. Later, the two are walking down a hall, and they come to one particular room. She opens the door to reveal a huge planetary model thing. "And I've saved the best for last. This is the Hall of the Universe. All the galaxies of the Magix dimension are in here. It has always been my favorite area of the castle." This is an excuse for Bloom to launch into a flashback to Domino's destruction, and to get viewers up to speed on the whole deal with her character and her search for her birth parents. "My people were swept away by the dark power of the witches' coven. But I'm still here, and so are my birth parents. I feel they are still alive. And even though finding them won't be easy, I will do it. Because while there is hope, there will always be a chance."
Bloom tears up just thinking about all that. "Hey, what's with the sad face and teary eyes?" "It's alright Stella, I'm good." "Don't forget, we're here to have fun. No crowds allowed. Think about tomorrow, it's going to be a great day. And nothing or no one is going to spoil it."
Of course, you probably figured out that this would be the cue for Valtor to show up. He sneaks into the palace, and we see Bloom and Stella checking out their presents. Bloom: "If you combined all my birthdays, I've never gotten this many presents." While Stella is going over her present inventory, Chimera is watching this. "You snotty girl, I hate you!"
Hello, Chimera's mom! "What are you doing here?! Envy is not befitting of a young lady of noble bearing!" Hell yeah. "But that Stella is truly detestable, I simply cannot stand that girl!" Uh-oh. Looks like Chimera's mom isn't one of the good guys... "Now you... you would make a much better princess of the sun and the moon." "But I'll be Stella's poor little stepsister forever, won't I? King Radius will always think she's better than me." "A father's love for his daughter is hard to overcome, a mother's love, on the other hand, is something that can never be suppressed!" Eh, what's that supposed to mean? Anyways, Valtor is watching all this, but we'll get to him later.
Chimera's mother enters the room where Stella and Bloom are now. Stella: "That's Countess Cassandra. She's very powerful in the royal court." Cass shows Stella the present she got her, a bright glowing necklace. "Very pretty, but more importantly, it's the thought that counts." Cass reveals that her daughter chose it. She's in the advanced sorcery program at Beta Academy, and there's that school again. Why bring it up if you're never going to make significant use of it?
And now, Chimera. Of course, Stella accuses her of being the dress thief. Dude. She did NOT steal your dress. She stole your pizza, but she did NOT steal your dress. Chimera: "It's a small world, your highness." Bloom explains that they had a bit of a mix-up in Magix, while Chimera says, "I didn't steal anything, but the princess of Solaria should have any dress she wishes. I don't want to make you cry, so if you want mine I'll just give it to you" Stella: "You keep it. I don't wear second-hand clothes!" Ouch. And... snap.
"It might not look like it now, but this could very well be the beginning of a lasting and beautiful friendship." Bloom, you have no idea how much better this subplot would be if that were the case. Chimera shoves a servant as she says, "Have fun while you can Stella, 'cause I swear I will ruin your party." Yeah. Just by showing up tomorrow, but that's not quite what she had in mind.
Next day. next day, next day! It's dawn, but there are just 10 hours to Stella's party, so she's waking Bloom up, by lifting up the bed and dumping her off it. Hee! There's so much for her to do: hairdo, beauty treatment, more outfits for the pre- and post-party, and she needs to ask someone how she looks, someone she can trust. And Bloom's sleeping on the dresses. Hee!
Hair treatment. Bloom is holding a mirror for Stella to look at her 'do. Keep that in mind. Chimera preps up a spell, and as she flings it, Bloom happens to be behind the chair with the mirror. The spell ends up bouncing of mirror. You know where this is going, right? Chimera ends up getting hit by her own spell. WHEE! And rams herself into a servant carrying cake. Double Whee!
Meanwhile, Stella's getting a facial.
Cass: "For the light of Solaria's sake, what happened to you?" Chimera: "It's that Stella girl. I can't stand her, she's spready she's royal and she's also lucky. I hate her so much. I'd give anything to be like her." Cue Valtor. He has a proposal: he's offering both of them powers to cast powerful spells and charms. In return, he wants to bathe in the magic light that illuminates Solaria. "With the power I offer you, you will be able to rule over King Radius, and you will become the new princess of the sun and the moon. Countess, just lead me to the steeple of the sun, and all this will be yours... forever." Cass obliges.
Hallway. They're walking past Bloom, who apparently got lost on her way to her room. Chimera gives her directions. But as Bloom passes Valtor, she feels a bit "uh-oh", and not just because he has that evil look on his face.
Steeple. Cass orders the soldier guards off. This allows Valtor to sneak in and take in the power of the sun of Solaria. Now that he's been re-powered up, time for him to keep his end of the bargain, and mark the girls. Anyways, the guests are arriving, so it's time for Valtor to leave. "I must go as well. But I'm sure we'll see each other again very soon." Oh, how I wish.
To the guards' horn music, here comes a Specialists' ship. The other Winx girls (sans Layla) have arrived, along with Brandon and Sky. Nice dresses, girls! Sky: "Bloom, you look gorgeous!" Bloom: "Well, you're not so bad either." She asks about Layla, and they think she's still on Andros. Brandon asks about Stella, and Bloom says "You'll see her soon."
Flora and Bloom walk into the party. "Wow. They really went all out for the princess ball." "Wait 'till you see the princess. :-)"
Horn music proclaims King Radius' arrival. "Today, my heart and joy is full of happiness, because my Stella is back here among us." The curtain opens to reveal Stella in her stunning dress. Brandon is drooling at the dress. (Okay, not literally, but...) Sky has to shut his mouth. Heh!
Of course, King Radius has his extra surprise on tap as well. "It's a surprise for the whole family, the whole of Solaria in fact."
Radius distracts the party-goers from their royal buffet to announce: "I'd like to let you know that our kingdom will soon have a queen again. Cassandra, my dear?"
Uh-oh. This can't be good...
"Ladies and gentlemen, in a month's time, Countess Cassandra will become my wife." Stella gasps as the crowd goes wild. Cass tells Stella "Stella, you'll soon be able to call me mom." A teed-off Stella asks her dad, "Why didn't you tell me about this before?!" "Well, I wanted it to be a surprise."
Well, screw you and your stupid surprise. You said it would make her very happy, and you couldn't have been more wrong.
Stella's with the other Winx girls. "My father ruined my party. Imagine, Cassandra and her horrbile daughter are going to be my new family!" Musa: "Look on the bright side" Stella: "What bright side?" Musa: "Well, Chimera could have had a twin sister..." Stella: "Sorry if I don't laugh, but I was hoping my parents were going to get back together. But this... this is the worst thing my father could have ever done to me!"
No bloody kidding, Stella. Anyways, Brandon runs into Stella. "Stella, I brought you a little present." Stella just puts it on some servant's tray to put with the others. Brandon takes it off the tray. He's going to give it to her himself. Flora tells Brandon, "Stella's feeling a little distressed right now." "A little" you say? Understatement of the year, people!
Radius decides to open the dance. Chimera: "Enjoy your last moment of peace little sister, because things are about to change." (And whattaya know? She's wearing the dress shestole bought last week.)
Meanwhile, we see Sky pairing off with Bloom for the dance. Hmm, that's strange. Where's Helia? For that matter, the other people we know have accepted invites: Timmy, Riven, Mirta... Tsk, lazy animators.
Bloom notices an upset Stella dancing with her dad. Yeah, whatever. Moving on.
Cue ominous music, as we see the evil steppies-to-be. Chimera decides to give a BIG makeover. "Your days as father's little angel are over. By the power of Valtor, change. Transform. Transmute."
And right before Radius' very eyes, her lovely Stella turns UGLY!!! Well, into a monster anyway. Now you're probably thinking, "But wouldn't Radius start looking for whoever fired that spell and send the guards for her?" Well, Cassandra's got that covered too. "Listen to my voice. This monster is not your daughter. Now do as I say."
After applying some magic on him, Radius's sending the guards alright, but for the horrid creature. "This is not my daughter!" All this despite its protests, and despite the fact Radius actually saw her change.
The steppies-to-be are pleased with their work. "Good job mother." "Good job daughter. To think we're only just getting started..."
Meanwhile, Stella asks the other girls to help her. While mayhem is going on inside the building, outside it is raining. It's a big deal here. "This isn't possible..." "It has never rained on Solaria before."
Inside. Stella isn't so sure about what happened, but the girls promise to protect her, as Chimera sends the guards for the girls. Insert transformations here!
While the other girls are in their fairy outfits, Stella notices that her powers are gone. Cassandra orders the soldiers to take the king to a safe place to prevent the monster from attacking him.
Chase! At the staircase, Tecna deflects the soldiers' shots right back at them with an Electrocage, prompting Flora to tell her, "Take it easy! We don't want to hurt them, just stop them." Musa's up next to repel the soldiers with a sound attack. "Hey, if this is a party, we need a disco ball!"
The Specialists (well, the two who showed up) are fighting off the soldiers. Brandon tells Bloom to go with Stella, while Bloom tells him to go to back to the ship with Sky and prepare to leave. The two crash through a window.
The Winx fairies run down the hall, and close a door and put heavy stuff behind it. Musa: "I have a feeling we won't be invited to the next party!" Bloom: "I'll be happy just to get out of here in one piece!" Stella pops up, and Flora screams. "Oh no don't look at me, I'm too ugly!" Yeesh. Your biggest concern is that you're ugly? Get some priorities, kiddo. Flora apologizes, as Tecna asks, "Someone cast a spell on you. Any idea who could have done that?" Bloom says, "We'll figure that out later. Let's just go." Stella for some reason decides she needs to see her father. Bloom: "Your father was scared Stella, that's why he said what he did." (Makes game show buzzer noise)
The guards shove open the blocked door. Flora puts up Wrapping Ivy to slow them down. Bloom "Girls, we've got wings. Whattaya say we use them?" So now the girls are carrying the monster. That's gotta be pretty tough. Anyways, Stella suggests going to the aviary tower. Bloom Dragonfire-blasts a way in for the girls. Bloom: "If we go up to the top they won't be able to reach us." Flo: "Where does this tower lead?" Stella: "To the aviary..." (Um. DUH.)
Down at the bottom a soldier begs to differ: "This time they're trapped... but they don't know it yet." He takes out some electronic gizmo and pushes a few buttons and makes the platform go up.
Stella: "Girls, can you speed it up a bit?" Musa: "Why, are you in a hurry? :-)" The soldiers and their platform are gaining on the girls fast, so Bloom stays back to stop them with a Firewall.
Outside. Specs running to their ship. Brandon: "Hey Sky. You think that the girls will be able to find a way out of the palace?" Sky: "Knowing those girls, they'll get out of there without even a single scratch." Suddenly, the aviary tower wall blows up from the sheer awesomeness of Bloom's Firewall.
The soldiers put up their shields to get past Bloom's Firewall, so now everyone's all caught up at the aviary. Tecna puts up some sort of shield to protect the girls from the soldiers' shots. Soldier: "Get the monster. It will tell us what they did with Princess Stella."
In the ensuing standoff, Stella somehow winds up falling out through the glass dome of the aviary. Following Stella out of the dome are Bloom, and a spell Flora randomly throws out the window for Bloom...
...and we'll find out what that's for next episode.

* I've uploaded pictures from "The Witches' Crypt" at my site, plus a few more from the previous week, and a couple from "Pushing the Envelope". Enjoy. Icons for both this week and last week's episode will be coming later.
* I only got to watch the first half of 3x03 (up to Tecna saving the girls from the spiders). I did tape 3x03-04, but I'll have to watch them some time from summarizing later. But from what I did see so far, there were a few significant changes. 3x05-6 air today.

* It's a bitter anniversary for me this weekend... those who know me will understand.
