Okay, first, website updates. I just upped a new gallery for "Battle of the Elements". Check it out. I'll get the finale up some time later.

Meanwhile, the other day I was buying a new printer-scanner at the Siam Paragon shopping mall. I remember that this mall has a branch of the Kinokuniya book store, and I know they carry Winx books, so I decided to stop by the store.

Sure enough, after a few minutes of searching for the English children's books section (it's a big store), I found the goods. They've got Winx alright, but not major Winx; they didn't have much of a selection. They had "Hidden Secrets", "Fairy Insider", and a few of the activity books. Prices were B161 for Hidden Secrets, and B181 for Fairy Insider. Taking exchange rates into account, that's about the same price (minus shipping, which would be a MONSTER) as one can get at Amazon.com, but it still gave me a bit of sticker shock.

As for what's inside the books: "Hidden Secrets" is a novelization of a couple episodes from S1, with the dialog taken almost verbatim from the episodes. A quick leaf-through shows that 13, 14, and then 17 are represented (they skip over 15 and 16, probably because they don't have much importance to the overall plot of the season); judging from how much into it I leafed, I guess it probably covers up to 18. As would probably be expected from being a Scholastic publication, it's based on the American version of the episodes, as the book begins with Bloom non-chalantly reacting to Vanessa wanting to talk to her about the day she adopted Bloom, and goes on to feature Bloom failing her exam and Lucy getting teed over Mirta's friendship spell. The chapters are short, and I mean really short: Many of them are about 2-3 pages long and cover about a minute or so of the show.

"Fairy Insider" comes with nail rub-on thingies, and is styled like a teen magazine, filled with quizzes and tips and stuff. Every two pages is rotated between each different fairy and their specialty (this is a pre-Layla book, so she's not represented; the only Layla book I saw that they had was Glitter Glow). Didn't check out too much of it though.

Meanwhile, most of the W.i.t.c.h. books are represented, both graphic novel and chapter book. Hmm... (And W.i.t.c.h. isn't next to Winx on the shelf. W.i.t.c.h. gets space on the Juvenile Literature shelf with the likes of Spiderwick Chronicles, Raven, Lizzie McGuire, and Roald Dahl. Winx gets its space on a different shelf, next to the Disney Princesses and Ratatouille, probably because of the activity books.)

B161? B181? What kind of currency is that?

There's no new Winx dolls in my area, but I can always sew felt dolls with the new lines. Also, I got an urge of making customized winx clothing for the dolls, but that won't be there until December.

I just made three new ones from Season 2. I am such a sewaholic.

Oh. Well, the US dollar is weak as hell, so you'll be getting a lot of $$$$$$$.
