spiderbraidsWe skip past Stella defrosting Bloom and Griz discovering the (now dropped) Varanda ruse, as we get V/O narration: "Later, at the Alfea College for Fairies..." Thanks, V/O lady, but I think we can see that. Bloom: "You guys, thanks for saving me from those witches." Stella: "Those witches call themselves the Trix. We should have a name, like, the Stella Team. The Stella Five? Oh, I've got it, the Stellairies." Musa: "The what??" Stella: "Hey, it rhymes with fairies." Thanks, but I prefer the W.i.t.c.h. reference from the 4Kids dub :-) "What's wrong, don't you like it Musa?" Musa channels the Lisa Ortiz version of herself: "Nah, it's totally uncool." Bloom: "What about... the Winx?" Flo: "I vote for Winx." Others: "Me too." We skip Bloom and Kiko showing off their logos, as Tecna asks: "But what does Winx mean?" Bloom: "Nothing, just us... the Winx." I remember having a bit of a debate about which was better, Winx not meaning anything, or Winx meaning magic in general (as it did in the 4Kids dub). In any case though, I'd say the comic book version of the naming is better.
Next day! Griz: "Young ladies. It is a tradition at Alfea College that first-years take on a challenging task without the use of magic. And I've devised a very special task for you. While everyone else enjoys an outing, you will spend the entire day at school, and you will clean the castle from top to bottom." Hey, isn't that episode 7? That's... a rather interesting choice of episode... (In the original script, the cleaning is actually a punishment for them sneaking into Cloud Tower in a previous episode.)
Flo: "What, the whole castle?" Griz: "No, only the stairs, corridors, classrooms, and bathrooms." Stella: "Oh, no problem. I thought it was going to be much worse." Bloom giggles :-D Griz conjures up a bunch of brooms and buckets. "You have no access to your magic powers, so... these are your work tools." Tec takes out her palmtop computer: "What a strange object." Griz shuts her palmtop: "And I forgot: You can't use technology either." Tec: "But why?" Musa: "Totally busted Tecna." Tec sees the other girls laughing: "It's not funny. You're being totally irrational." In the original and 4Kids versions, the girls had better reasons to laugh. Griz: "Young ladies, tomorrow I'll conduct an inspection. Everything better be clean. Now go!"

Tec: "I can handle the situation Flora. Don't worry!" Tec uses the broom to dust one of the higher picture frames. She knocks it over: "I think I might have done something wrong." She did not say no flesh and blood." Stella: "Of course, and then when we're done cleaning, we can have a nice party." Musa: "That is a wonderful idea." Bloom: "Oh I can't wait." Somehow, the setting has changed from the room they were in earlier to one of the corridors. Unlike everyone else, Riven doesn't make any effort to catch his. Flo: "Let's crank it up." Musa: "Come on and let's get this cleaning party started." Riven: "In your dreams!" Instead of the original song-and-dance, we get a quick series of drawings moved over backgrounds, with lighting effects applied, followed by a shot of Kiko casually strolling across the floor.
Dorm room. Musa tosses CDs into 4 identical boomboxes, and we see the other girls dancing. Stella: "Everything's done, and I found out that Brandon is great with a mop. So, what's going on with you and Prince Sky?" Bloom: "Well, uh, nothing..." Stella: "So why are you blushing? Anyways, this is the perfect time to get to know him."
Outside, the Trix show up. Darcy: "Hey, didn't you say the school was empty?" Icy: "It appears I was mistaken." The Trix decide to eavesdrop on those silly little fairies (Icy's words, not mine). Timmy: "Would you like to dance with me Tecna?" Tec: "No, I don't like to. It makes me feel kind of awkward." Timmy: "Oh. Well, that makes two of us. I don't like it either. I feel ridiculous." Riven: "Timmy, you're ridiculous even when you're not dancing." Amusingly, on the table is a pizza box, that exotic food that Flo and Musa have never heard of :-) Riven watches Musa moonwalk across the floor. Sky: "She's pretty cute huh?" Riven: "Yeah whatever."
The Trix get out of the way. Icy: "Let's conjure up the vacuums." Stormy: "The vacuums? But why? They're made to find and store the most powerful and mystical energies." Icy: "I feel like the energy we're looking for is somewhere in the school." So they conjure up three bottle-like thingies. "Let's go. The vacuums will take us to the power."
Inside. Icy: "We will search this whole stinking castle, but just in case those fairies come looking, this should keep them busy." "This" being a big horned monster. In the dorm, Stella is pouring OJ for Brandon ("Am I making you nervous?") when they hear the monster and notice the school shaking. Stella: "It's coming from outside." They go outside, and there's nothing out of the ordinary: "Maybe someone left their TV on" :-D A sofa flies out of an adjacent window: "Or maybe not" :-D :-D
Riven whistles, and brings up the Specs' floating motorbikes to ride across the courtyard. The girls make do with running. Timmy: "What kind of creature could do this?" Tec: "A big and heavy creature." Riven: "Oh golly, I never woulda guessed :-P" Tec: "It's a little over 8 feet tall and weighs close to a ton. Its fur is bristly, it has horns and mostly clawed limbs. It also has a musky odor. Now is that better?" Stella: "Way to go Tec :-D" Specs take out their swords, and the Winx offer to follow. Riven: "No, stay where you are fairies. This isn't a job for you." Musa: "Was he serious?"
We see the girls running. We see them being followed by the vacuums (and the Trix). Hint hint... Some other place. Brandon: "Hey Timmy, can you give us some light?" Timmy takes out his gun to create a ball of light, and they note that it went back upwards. Upstairs. Musa: "Ew, I just hit something really funky." Turns out to be the monster. The monster slobs all over Stella: "Ew, this is really disgusting." Stella faces down the monster before being told that they don't have their powers, and she decides to sally back :-D Girls running around. Trix coming up with their vacuums. Flora tripping and Stella picking her up. Doors being opened.
The monster stomps around and causes the corridor to shake. Bloom gets away from the monster, and after the dust settles, the monster goes for Tec. Tec jumps real high and causes its horns to get stuck in the walls. Stella sprays a bunch of perfume: "You are one nasty critter. Maybe this will freshen you up." "Great, you made it even angrier..." Stella: "Maybe another scent?" :-D The Specs are here. Riven: "I'm going to take this thing down." The monster punches him clear out of a window into a hallway... abruptly bringing us to the end of the 3rd segment. Hmm.
So, they're using episode 7 for the summary for hooking up with the boys, and it's a rather... interesting choice, considering that the girls don't have their magic. (Then again, the same could be said for episode 4, the other episode about meeting the boys...) And it's been pointed out that changing it from punishment to tradition creates a new plot-hole: If it's such a tradition, then where are all the other first-years?
