Winx Club: The Battle for Magix (Part 1)

spiderbraidsThis weekend, we have the last of the four hour-long specials recapping the first two seasons, but first, let's recap The Battle for Magix. In four parts, of course :-)
We pick up where the last special left off, with Bloom waking up from her slumber and her parents caring for her. A portal opens... Bloom: "The Trix!... Oh no, they're back!" Just like how she jumped to conclusions against Diaspro, Bloom is wrong again. Stella: "Bloom, what happened here?" Bloom exposits about her attack to Stella. Mom: "Bloom, what do you want to do?" Stel: "You can't let the Trix get away with this! You have to fight them Bloom! Come back to Alfea with me, we'll all help you. Together I know we can beat those evil witches." Dad: "We're with you sweetie." Mom: "Oh, I love you."
Cut to Alfea, and it looks so much better with the new FX. We see Bloom and Stella walk back in silently. But where the original script has them going to their dorm, here Stella tells Bloom at the atrium: "I think you should talk to headmistress Faragonda." And so she does.
Griz pours some tea for Bloom: "Here, drink it while it's hot. It'll do you good." FG: "Alright then, would you like to tell me what happened Bloom?" Bloom does, ending with "They took the Dragon Flame!" FG: "Bloom, this is very grave news. The Dragon Flame is one of the great powers of the Magic Dimension." Bloom: "You knew I was the keeper of the Dragon Flame?" Hey, don't jump to conclusions again lady... FG: "I suspected it, and I was hoping you would have time to learn about yourself, and your powers." And look how well that turned out, FG. Bloom: "But now Icy, Darcy and Stormy now control the Dragon Flame!" FG: "*Sigh* This does not bode well for Magix. Even the witches will not be safe. We must warn Griffin." Somehow, I don't think that'll do much good...
(Imitates redundant VO lady) Meanwhile, at Cloud Tower, the student witches are having lunch (or whatever meal this is), and we jumpcut to the Trix having already entered the cafeteria atrium. We hear the students saying "Gasp, the Trix!" Grif: "Oh, the insolence! So you decided to grace us with your presence!" Grif gets iced. We see two random teachers (one purple, one blue) come in, jumping clear across the big space in the cafeteria. Nice jump ladies :-) Purple: "Ms. Griffin, are you alright?" Blue: "Your behavior is unacceptable!" Stormy: "Hah! What are you gonna do, give us detention?" She literally whips up a storm with the cafeteria furniture and the students having their meals, throwing the random teachers out of CT, before stopping the storm and putting a bunch of students in freefall. Grif jumps down and teleports the students (and herself) down to the floor. Grif throws a spell at the Trix, which Darcy makes ineffective, and to finish off, Icy ices Grif to the wall a la Bloom. Icy: "In case you haven't got it yet Ms. Griffin, we're in charge now :-)"
Alfea dorm. Bloom is sulking to her friends: "What a mess! I was unable to use my power when I needed it most, and now the Magic Dimension is in serious jeopardy. I've got to do something! But what? I mean, I've lost my powers... I'm not a fairy... I'm not anything anymore!" While she's saying this, we see Bloom hug Kiko. We then see Stella picking up her phone...
...as we cut to Sky on his phone at RF: "Hi uh Stella, may I speak to Bloom?... Uh of course, no problem, I'll wait... She can't. *sigh*" Riven sees Sky put his phone back in his pocket: "Rejected by his little fairy. Hah, Darcy will be happy to hear this." We see Riven riding to CT on his bike, then Darcy calling out to him from Grif's office. Riven parks outside the office and jumps in through the window.
Riven: "What are you doing in here? Since when did Griffin let you use her office?" Darcy: "Since we took it from her :-D" Thud on the soundtrack. Riven: "What do you mean? Where's Griffin? What have you done?" Riven's query kind of gets drowned out by the Trix's laughter, as we see a nice fire effect on Icy's eyes. Icy: "We just put her in her place." Darcy: "And now we're gonna put you in yours!" The Trix start to swirl around a confused Riven. Icy: "Oh Riven, do you think we cared?" Riven: "You evil witches! You used me!" Darcy puts out a "Sphere of Oblivion", putting them in an area of purple mist, and next thing Riven sees is that the Trix are much larger than him. The Trix cast a really bright spell, and next thing we see is the Trix meditating somewhere in CT.
Icy: "The Dragon Flame is now ours. We'll begin our conquest at Red Fountain, and then, the whole Magix world." Stormy: "At last." Icy: "First things first Stormy, we must raise our army: The creatures of the dark. Rise creatures of the dark, as your rulers we command it!" We see the creatures rise, and for the first time since the first part of the first special, we see a certain ogre. Knut sees the creatures: "Time to get out of here!"
Redundant VO lady: "Later at Red Fountain..." Saladin: "What are you doing here Knut, spying for the Trix?" Knut: "Oh no Mr Saladin, I had to get away from them! They're not just bad anymore, they're evil!" The Trix holo-call in. Icy: "There you are Knut, you traitor. Do you think Saladin can keep you safe? *cackle*" Darcy: "Well, you'll be sorry you ran out on us. We're gonna take RF down to the stubs!" Sal casts his staff at the holo-call: "Be gone, witches!" The Trix "leave" but Knut assures that "They'll be back."
Morning at RF. We see the teachers approaching a bunch of Specialists who have gathered in the main area. Sal: "Young men! Soon we will be under attack by the Trix and their evil army. The time has come... to do battle!" Codatorta: "Are you ready?" Timmy and other random guys: "Yeah! / We're ready!" Sal: "We must fight with everything that is in us!" The sky quickly darkens with pink lightning, as the Trix's army of creepy crawlies surfaces in RF territory. We get a pan of some random specs, including one guy who's wearing all his hair in a light purple ponytail. Some of creepy crawlies assemble into larger monsters, and we have another pan of random specs, including one who bears a bit of a passing resemblance to one of the Wizards of the Dark Circle. Coda: "This is it, it's time to fight. Engage the enemy!" Timmy: "There are millions of them. Take that!" Timmy's gunshots make contact with a few of the bigger monsters, but his smugness is short-lived as they simply reassemble, with one taking Timmy by the neck. Luckily Knut comes in and punches and throws a couple monsters, including the one with Timmy. Timmy: "Thanks Knut." Sal tries some Latin spells on them. Sal: "Go away creatures of evil! Depart from Red Fountain!" Sal's spell turns them into piles of creepy crawlies, and it's super ineffective as they reassemble again. We see a Spec looking like he's carrying a big purple cane as his weapon, as if he were yelling for kids to get off his lawn :-D
And here come the Trix, cackling. Icy: "Newsflash old man... Red Fountain is history!" Icy casts an ice dragon (now with awesome ice effects!) to encase RF in ice. For some reason, Nick feels it necessary to retain the brief shot of the tip of Icy's iceberg falling off. Coda: "Strategic withdrawal: Everyone to their battleships!" The Trix cackle and leave, and the Specs board their ships in a rather orderly fashion. We see the ships leave RF, but (animation goof) there's no ice to be seen around it, as we fade to Icy looking in their (by which I mean Grif's) crystal ball. Darcy: "Weren't we great? We flattened that place." Stormy: "We rule." Icy: "Ah, but we're not done yet sisters. The best is yet to come."
So far, they're remaining generally faithful to the original script, although of course, certain things have been understandably removed or altered in the name of saving time. Also, now that she has much more dialog, Grif sounds more fitting of the principal of a witch school than she did in the previous special.
