Winx Club: The Battle for Magix (Part 2)

spiderbraidsWe see RF ships coming and landing at Alfea. Coda: "Alfea hasn't yet come under attack. We'll be able to reorganize our troops here." FG welcomes the random Specs coming in through her door: "Come on in young men. We'll help you get settled." Sal: "Thank you Faragonda. The situation is critical. Red Fountain has been destroyed." FG: "I'm so sorry Saladin, but I fear... this is only the beginning." For some reason, FG gets a fire effect in her eyes. Plus, they've also completely skipped the part where the girls go to Domino/Sparx to find out about Bloom's backstory. Hmm...
Time to check on Riven and Griffin, in the CT dungeon. Just like in the 4Kids version, Riven's little hallucination gets cut out, but since this is a one-hour version of the last 8 or so episodes of S1, the cut is a bit more forgiven here. (In case you're interested, here's a clip of it.) Anyways... Grif: "Hey kiddo!" Riven: "Miss Griffin, is that you? What are you doing here?" Grif: "Paying the price for my arrogance. I should've seen earlier that the Trix were truly dangerous." And... where does arrogance figure into that, exactly? Riven: "It's not your fault, no one knew what they were planning, especially me." Riven looks at the T-shaped keyhole on his door and a bent nail on the floor: "But maybe I can get us out of here." Riven gets out easily. "Don't worry Miss Griffin, I'll get you out of here in a second." Grif: "Don't waste your time here. Believe me, if it were as easy at that my dark powers would've taken care of that lock long before now. But we may still find a way." We see that she's locked up with a few other students making potions. How... A-Team-ish.
We hear squirming noises. Riven: "What is that?" Grif: "Creatures of the dark! Save yourself! Run!" Riven: "But..." Grif: "You can do nothing for me! Run!" And he's off! The creatures chase Riven up the stairs, and then down a hall that ends at a window. Riven: "Oh no, looks like this is the only way out!" Riven climbs out the window as the creatures close in: "Here goes nothing..." Riven jumps, and we cut straight to Sky having a gut feeling in FG's office. Bloom: "What's the matter?" Sky: "Nothing, I just got this strange feeling..." We get a wide shot of who's in the office: Knut, some guy with a green hat (WizGiz, who hasn't otherwise been in these specials), FG, Sal, Bloom, Sky, Stella and Brandon.
FG: "Bloom, I think your plan makes sense." Sky: "Come on. Only a total lunatic would go anywhere near Cloud Tower right now." Bloom: "But I have to get the Dragon Flame back, and I'm sure it's in Cloud Tower. Besides, it's the last thing the Trix would expect." Brandon: "How are you planning to get in?" Knut: "Easy. We can take the tunnels." Since we've skipped both times they've been plot-relevant before now, Bloom exposits: "There are ancient tunnels linking all three schools, and Knut can find the way. Look, I'm going, with or without you." Stella: "Well, not without me." FG: "You must leave immediately. The final attack is coming." We pan towards the mirror in FG's room, and we get a sparkle flash transition to a wide shot of Alfea, as bunch of clouds begin to gather.
Bottom of a well, with Knut, Bloom, Stella, Sky and Brandon. Unlike in the original, Stella is still in her casuals. Sky: "Okay Knut, so which way do we go to get to Cloud Tower?" Knut: "I'm not sure. Everything is different down here." Knut comes to 3 tunnels. Stella: "Good, there are 3 tunnels. Which one do we take?" Knut: "Uh... I don't know." Stella: "What? In the past half hour you nearly led us into 13 death traps." Uh, already? Bloom: "Stella, Knut is doing his best. Knut, you have a great sense of smell. Use it." Knut sniffs around and picks the center tunnel: "It's this one!" Stella: "That's what you say now but are you sure?" Knut: "If I say it's this one, then this one it is!"
And we get a short montage of Knut leading the way and piling on their near death (trap) experience count set to some upbeat music. We see them running away from giant slugs, Knut flooding a tunnel, Knut struggling through water, and Knut tearing apart vines to free the others, and plenty of (the same) shot of water dripping from a tunnel ceiling. We see them sitting on what are obviously giant grubs. Stella: "I'm exhausted." Not surprisingly, they end up running from giant grub-bugs.
Stella: "Oh yeah, we'll get out of here no problem. Right!" Knut: "It's not my fault, this place is full of smell!" Knut sniffs around: "Hang on a second, I know that smell..." Suddenly, the wall next to Knut gives way, sending him down a slide... into Cloud Tower's garbage dump. Stella is pinching her nose: "Yuck, what a stench." Bloom: "Let's give him a hand. Come on!"
Bloom apparently hears something: "What was that?" Stella: "I don't know, and I don't want to know" :-D Knut: "*sniffsniff* Uh oh, dump roaches!" Stella: "What are these things?" Knut: "Oh, giant garbage eating bugs!" Stella: "Ew, they're disgusting!" And surrounding them I might add. Sky: "Knut, will they attack us?" A roach takes Knut by the leg so there's your answer. Luckily, Bloom hits it with a bent metal rod sending him scurrying back. Knut: "For a fairy with no powers, you sure pack a punch!" :-) Bloom: "Thanks. *gasp* Look out!" This time, Sky is the unlucky one, getting picked up a really big purple and red bug, shaking his sword from his hands. Bloom rushes to help, but here comes some dude in a robe to help, by turning this into an insect rodeo. Dude fires his gun directly into the bug's head: "Your number's up!" Bug shakes dude off and scurries away. You'd think a shot directly to the head would do more damage to the bug, but anyways... Stella: "Guys look, they're all going away." Dude: "That's right, the one I zapped was the leader." Sky: "Hey, who are you anyway?" Dude takes off his robes: "What, you don't recognize your old friend anymore?" Well, hello there, Riven.
Cut to inside the tunnel. Sky: "So, what exactly were you doing inside Cloud Tower's garbage dump?" Riven: "Darcy turned on me. I was trying to escape the dungeon the Trix locked me in.... and I landed in the garbge dump." We flashback to Riven's jump, and we see him bounce off a protruding feature on the tower base, and slide into the dump, landing on both legs. Impressive. Riven: "You guys, I'm sorry for how I acted, for all the stuff I did." Sky: "It's okay, I'm glad to have you back." Riven's character arc is rather more meaningful in the full episodes (especially with the hallucination they skipped). Anyways, Bloom has good news: "Knut has finally found the way to Cloud Tower!" We see them continue to walk the tunnels.
Grif's office with Icy at the table. A big spider walks in, opening its giant eye on its back to reveal Knut and friends walking in the tunnels. Icy: "Oh look, it's our little friends. I was wondering when they would show up :-)" Darcy and Stormy are suddenly in the room as well as Icy adds, "Sisters, we have guests. Let's go say hello."
Sky: "So this is the place?" Knut points down a hallway: "Here we are, and that's where the Trix hide all their secrets." Riven: "Been here, done that" :-D "Let's see if we can find Ms. Griffin." Brandon brandishes his sword: "Be back soon." Knut, Bloom, Stella and Sky split up with them. Sky: "I'll catch up with you in a minute." We see a small creepy crawlie wriggling in the foreground.
Bloom et al. come to a pair of doors, as we see a bird fly near them. Bloom: "It must be in here." She opens a door to reveal... well, a hall with a couple statues and a bowl with fire coming out of it. I'm pretty sure there's a more technical term for the bowl... Bloom: "The Dragon Flame. I found it." No sooner than she says that and starts to approach it, though, the bowl gets filled with ice. One guess as to who did it. Icy: "Well, well, that's not the Dragon Flame." But the Trix don't even get to gloat before they're slammed smack into a wall, leaving Trix-shaped marks :-D :-D Bloom: "Miss Griffin!" Grif: "What do you think girls?" Icy: "So, you managed to escape, Ms. Griffin! And just what do you think you're doing?" Griffin puts up not one, but two big walls of magic in front of them (where the original had regular stone walls) and tells the others "Run you fools!" They run off, with Griffin staying behind to add a few more rocky spikes for good measure :-) And nice FX on Grif casting her spells. Grif: "Hurry, to the Windswept Terrace!" Uh, do you really think they can hear you from that far? Icy throws up her ice against the wall to no avail: "Unbelievable! No!"
Stormy: "How are we going to get out of here?" Icy: "You think a little granite is going to stop me? Step aside sister." While Icy starts throwing more ice spells at it, we see Griffin and a bunch of robed figures following her up a staircase to the helipad-like area where Mirta spied on the Trix. Grif: "Hurry girls, the barriers I put up won't hold the Trix for long! I'll conjure up a dimensional portal to Alfea!" A large portal opens in the sky sucking up robed student witches like a tornado. Grif: "We must be quick! The creatures of the dark are coming!" Sky: "Ms. Griffin, get everyone out! I'll create a diversion." Grif conjures up a bike: "Use this!" Sky gets on the bike and a set of armor conjures on to him. Bloom: "I'm coming with you." Bloom gets on and gets her own suit as they ride off and Riven and Stella take the portal. Riven: "Hmm, good luck with that." Stella: "Bloom, be careful!"
We see Sky knock over some creatures with his bike. Grif from the portal: "Get out of here you two!" Bloom: "That's everyone." Sky: "Time to go!" Sky knocks over some more creatures and flies the bike over to the ramp to/from CT and down onto the forest roads. They ride a while... Sky: "We're almost there!" A bunch of creatures block his path: "Monsters! Look out!" Sky runs them off the road: "I'll try to lose them!" We see the monsters trying to shoot at the bike. Bloom sees a good bit of damage on the back of the bike: "Sky! We're hit!" They fly off the road, breaking through a rail I might add, even though I doubt the area between the fountains even has any hills to put roads with side rails on, causing them to crash in the forest below. Ouch.
While most of what's been skipped is understandable, skipping the trip to Domino also means skipping Sky talking about breaking up with Diaspro. I'd wager that might be a bit important, especially since I hear Nick's going to air S3 whole...
