Winx Club: The Battle for Magix (Part 4)
Oct. 15th, 2011 07:23 pmThe Shadow Phoenix is tomorrow, but first, the last part of the The Battle for Magix.
Alfea battle. Stormy: "Do they really think their dumb barriers can stop us?" Stormy summons an awesome (but somewhat out of place) CG dragon, before disabling the shield with lightning, and also taking out one of the towers. Which is not exactly how it happened in the original script, but I digress. Musa: "I've had about enough of you Trix!" Insert transformations here, because they were on standby in their casuals. Honestly, why would a fairy be on standby, right on the battle grounds, in her casuals? It's almost as if they wanted to get the transformations in... (Incidentally, they were already transformed in the original script.)
Anyways, Flora opens with a weak-looking shot of pollen that Stormy easily disposes of: "Seriously?" We see New!Palladium wield his sword. We see many fairies and Specialists lob their various spells, shots and arrows at the creatures. So Rainbow goes through the process of re-animating the final battle, and the student witches are still nowhere to be seen. Hmph.
Stella: "We can't hold them! They're breaking through!" Tec: "I know!" Icy is busy gloating at the Trix's handiwork... when a large wall of flames blocks the front wall of Alfea, and that can only mean one thing... "Bloom! It's Bloom! Yay! / Alright!" (For some reason, Mirta is standing with them.) Brandon sees Sky, who is STILL in his biker outfit: "Hey, Sky. Sure is good to see you again." Bloom: "Oh, hi everybody. I just thought I'd drop in." :-P Icy: "It's not possible! I don't believe this!" The other Trix are also in disbelief. Bloom: "Thought you'd got rid of me right? Well, you thought wrong!" Bloom fires a shot at Icy's throne. Icy is hovering in the air as the Trix join her: "Well look who's back. Let's give her a cold welcome." Stella: "Enough already with the evil!" Tec: "Come on Winx!" The Winx fly off to join Bloom. Icy: "Oh look, more fairies. But so what?" Icy fires off a spell, which Bloom has covered for them. Icy and Bloom separate off from the main pack. Bloom: "Icy, I'm coming for you!" Over the lake, we see Bloom fire a few shots at Icy.
We see Specialists continuing to fire away at the creatures of the dark. Riven backs up right into Sky: "Well, where in the world did you and Bloom go?" Sky exposits away as they fight. Riven on Magix as a ghost town: "The Trix have outdone themselves this time!" Sky: "Yeah, I think that Bloom has just about had it with them." :-)
In the sky, a showdown between the other Trix and the other Winx. Darcy clones herself and Stormy sends a tornado their way. Tec puts up a sphere, presumably to prevent any of them from getting sucked in. Stella takes the clones out with that sceptre of hers.
Flora fires off a Flower Twister, and Musa follows suit: "Let's add a touch of music to this!" Musa conjures up the speakers she used on Knut in the first special to blast at Darcy and Stormy. Stormy: "Alright, that's enough!" Stormy destroys the speakers. Darcy fires a spell at Flora and Musa. They get out of the way and Musa hits Darcy with a sound blast from behind. We get a wide shot of Alfea under battle.
Stormy: "Sister, I'm going to blow those fairies away!" Stormy creates another tornado by spinning really fast and chases the Winx with it. We see it going through the battle grounds, knocking over a random fairy and a Specialist with wolverine claws, and in the ensuing chaos, Flora gets sucked in. We see the girls trying to grab Flora, and for some reason, Stella is having everyone grab her scepter. This makes the tornado glow brightly, and next thing you know, Darcy sees it heading straight towards her: "Uh oh!" Tornado sucks Darcy in. Then the tornado dissipates, leaving Darcy and Stormy falling to the ground, and FG and Grif lock them in a big ball of rock. The other Winx drop on the ground in relief.
Icy and Bloom over the forest, and I pity those who watched the original TX of this special because the gang from iCarly briefly comes on screen to distract the viewer while Bloom is busy firing her dragon against Icy. Icy freezes the dragon, and fires a salvo of ice shots against Bloom. Bloom evades them all and even teleports back in front of Icy (didn't make sense in the original script, still doesn't now). Bloom: "That the best you got witchy-poo?" :-P But Bloom does have a point. Honestly Icy, you've got a whole dragon of your own to fight Bloom with, and you're only shooting minor ice shots? Icy continues to ignore this logical course of action and fires more icicles that Bloom blocks off.
Icy decides to get serious: "Crystal Cage!" This encases Bloom in a large spiky ball of ice, sending her hurtling to the ground, shattering on impact as Icy cackles. But then a teleporting-in Bloom laughs at Icy before knocking her into the lake. Icy summons a hand to grab Bloom into the lake with her, before getting out of the lake to freeze the whole surface. Icy: "It's a skating rink! You're done Bloom!" The "rink" shatters quickly, though, as Bloom comes out again. Icy: "That's it, I'm taking you out now!" Icy catches Bloom in a bunch of ice, and we see Icy's reflection on the ice cackling. A wide shot shows that Icy has encased Bloom in a giant tower of ice, that simply dwarfs everything else in shot (even Alfea). Icy: "Shake that one off, fairy!"
Bloom's dragon swirls around the tower and shatters it in like two seconds, then Bloom follows up with a very powerful blast, and even that's an understatement. The sheer force of the blast takes out Icy and all of the remaining monsters. Again, not exactly how it happened in the original, and honestly, it's almost as if they were rushing to wrap things up :-\ So Rainbow goes through the process of re-animating the final battle, and Icy's RF-destroying ice dragon is also nowhere to be seen. Double hmph.
FG sees all this happen and knows it can only be Bloom. We see Stormy and Darcy already under arrest, and the sky clears up as Bloom brings Icy in. We see random Specialists cheer, and then Flora and Sky. Bloom: "Here you go Miss Faragonda." Icy gets up and her eyeshadow smears :-D FG: "Young lady! You and your sisters have behaved badly!" Grif: "That's putting it mildly, Faragonda. And so, the three of you will be confined to Light Rock Monastery, until we see fit to release you!"
Stella runs over to hug Bloom. Bloom sees Sky, prompting Stella to say: "Excuse me" as she gets out of the way for Bloom and Sky to enjoy a VERY brief kiss. Cute. We don't get to see the other couples pairing up, though... :-\
Grif is talking with FG: "Those young witches nearly destroyed Magix. Let's see what a long stay in a bright and cheerful monastery does for them." We see the Trix, now in white robes rather than their monogrammed outfits, being escorted into a portal. Each witch looks back in anger, especially Icy.
Sunset over Alfea, and we cut to a party. We see the Winx and their Specialist boyfriends (if it's okay to call them that) basically enjoying themselves (Knut and Mirta are also at their table). Flora: "Who'd have ever thought we'd all be here, safe and sound?" Tec: "All of us, all together. And celebrating." We see Kiko walk across the table with a bunch of fruit and trip over :-)
We get a shot of the lake near Alfea at night. We see Bloom at the fountain. Sky comes in: "Bloom, are you okay?" Bloom: "Yeah, I'm just thinking..." Sky: "About what?" Bloom: "Everything. About how crazy the Trix are, how great my friends are, how much I've learned, how much I've changed... I wonder what's going to happen next?" Sky: "I dunno. But, I guess we'll find out... together." Sky and Bloom hold each other by their fingers, as Bloom looks at the night sky and sees a shooting star streaking across. How cute.
Okay, so we've come to the end of the first season, and on the one hand, they've mostly stuck to the original script, for better or worse. On the other hand, though, Bloom's Mary Sue quotient gets ratcheted up real high by having her wipe out the entire army in one blast :-P
Another side effect of the abridged version is that certain things have not been properly resolved: Besides skipping Sky talking about breaking up with Diaspro, we've also skipped Magix town coming back to life. I'd think that might have warranted a throwaway line or two at least...
With one special remaining for the whole of season 2 (!), it'll be interesting to see how (well) they'll pull that off. There's been plenty of speculation on this, which pretty much accepts that there's plenty of filler in season 2 that can (and will) be skipped. Nick's already put up some preview clips, ofLaylaAisha rescuing the pixies (2x01), and a mix of Avalon giving the girls flowers (2x09) and Avalon's dream regression session with Bloom (2x19), and so far, I like what I'm hearing (now this Lord Darkar can be taken seriously :-))
Alfea battle. Stormy: "Do they really think their dumb barriers can stop us?"
