Winx Club: The Shadow Phoenix (part 2)

spiderbraidsThe Specialists transport returns to Alfea, as the other girls (and Layla's pink-hoodied pixie) come to greet them. We finally get the name of that pink-hoodied pixie Piff. The other three pixies who were in the same cage as Lockette and Amore can't seem to stop saying "Hello!" as they meet the other three Winx. Tecna looks at a video of the blue-grey haired pixie on her portable as she greets her: "Greetings Tecna, I am Digit." We see Musa with a pixie with a big blue bow and big blue dress. Musa: "Hello." Big blue dress: "You rock!" Golden pigtails: "Hello Flora, I'm so glad to meet you. So so happy!" So, what's up with two of the pixies not being named yet? I know they're strapped for time, but still, a simple "My name is [whatever]" should suffice...
Morning rises at Alfea. The girls are in FG's room. FG: "I am delighted that you are back, with the pixies. We are not yet out of the woods, girls. If this Shadow Phoenix is looking for their village, the pixies can't return there. So, Aisha, I've spoken to your parents, and they agree that you and the pixies should stay here at Alfea." Aisha: "Thank you headmistress Faragonda." The Winx cheer, as FG adds: "I know that we can keep you all safe, and to help, let me introduce... Professor Avalon." Avalon takes off his dark purple hoodie to reveal his dark gray hair. Bloom: "The winged man!" B/S/A: "He rescued us from the Trix!"
We abruptly fade out to Bloom having a dream. We see a baby's hands waving as her family is standing in the distance. Sister: "Mom, Bloom's awake!" Dad: "Isn't she lovely?" Mom: "Oh, come on darling..." Bloom abruptly wakes up and realizes who she was dreaming about: "My birth parents... My family..." She goes back to sleep with tears in her eyes.
Morning again at Alfea, and for the first time in these specials, we see their dining room, with long tables and chandeliers. Stella: "Oh man, it's horrid and grey and utterly depressing." Stella sees a pink flower appear at her seat. Musa and Aisha are in awe and they see flowers appear as well. Same with the other Winx (though for some reason, only Tecna is sitting with her pixie). Everyone in the cafeteria: "Good morning Professor Avalon!" Avalon: "I hope the flowers got your day off to a cheery start." Bloom: "Thank you Professor. Purple is my favorite color." Flora: "Yes, it's mine too." I dunno... those flowers look more like pink than purple...
Avalon: "Bloom, I sense you're troubled... perhaps about a dream you had." Bloom: "Oh, I... I dreamt about my birth parents. I could hear their voices. I wish so much I knew more about them." Avalon: "I think I can help. Come to my office after class." Stella: "Life is wonderful." Musa: "Best day ever." (Not all tomboys can be Rainbow Dash ;-))
Avalon's office. Bloom is lying down surrounded by spell orbs. Avalon: "Bloom. Empty your mind of everything but the sound of my voice." Bloom: "Yes professor. I'm listening." Avalon: "Good. Now fly, Bloom. See your birth parents and your power." We see a red-haired woman with curls and rather regal hair and a brown-haired man wearing a helmet and suitably regal robes. We also see a CG dragon, like the one Bloom fought Icy with in the last special. We see her parents and dragon get covered by a smoke monster. Bloom suddenly wakes up and knocks the orbs to the ground, making a squeaky noise as they hit :-)
Avalon: "What did you see Bloom?" Bloom: "I don't know... I can't remember." Avalon: "Don't worry, in time, it will be clear." Honestly, that's pretty stupid. You'd think something like seeing a bloody smoke monster in your vision would stick with you for a while. Especially since it's the last thing she sees before waking up. Does Bloom suddenly have the mythical short-term memory of a goldfish? (And it's that way in the original too.)
We jump ahead to Avalon bringing the girls to RF. "Here we are girls, the opening of the new Red Fountain." Bloom: "Thank you so much for bringing us Professor AValon." Avalon: "It's going to be a great day. Now enjoy yourselves. We'll all meet up after the ceremony." Bloom: "Mmm, he's so great." Mirta is standing in the background (even though now she has nothing to do anymore...)
We see the Specs with the Winx. Sky: "I'm so glad you could make it. Welcome... to the new Red Fountain." We fade to the guys and girl walking down a path. Bloom: "So, what do you guys have planned?" Sky: "It's going to be quite a surprise." Bloom: "I wonder where Professor Avalon is. I wouldn't want him to miss it." Sky: "Who's Professor Avalon?" Bloom: "Oh Sky, he's the best! I'm going to go find him. Meet you guys there!" Bloom runs off with Lockette.
We cut to inside the stadium, where some guy with dark-greyish hair is using a brush and pad to draw pigeons. Brandon: "Hey, Helia, meet the Winx." Helia: "Stella, Tecna, hello. I was just doing some sketching. Helia shows Flora his pigeon drawing. Flo: "The bird's wings look just like the petals of a flower!" Helia: "Nobody's ever said the bird's wing looks like flowers..." Brandon: "And this is Flora." Helia: "Flora..."
Abrupt jumpcut to flags being raised and paraded. Saladin and Codatorta come in. Sal: "Welcome, to the unveiling of the new Red Fountain!" Sal casts his spell to raise a big upside-down chess pawn-shaped building (with a rather phallic bottom tip :-P) from the ground, to the wild cheers of the crowd in the stadium below. And the Winx as well.
Fade to the Specs and the Winx sitting at the new RF's garden. Avalon meets Bloom: "What a wonderful day it's been. Don't you think so Bloom?" Bloom: "Oh yes, I agree. And I'm so glad you were here Professor Avalon." Sky looks at them: "It's like he's got her hypnotized." Meanwhile, a paper airplane flies past, and lands next to Flora. Flora unfurls it to reveal a drawing of her, and she cuddles it in adoration.
Next day at the new RF. Sky calls Bloom. Bloom: "Hey, Sky, I had a great time yesterday." Sky: "You mean with Professor Avalon?" Bloom: "Isn't he great? I just love his class. We're learning so much!" Sky gets on the elevator (and for some reason Rainbow has added some effects on the button panel.) Bloom: "Hey, did I tell you that he's helping me visualize my past, say my birth parents?" Sky: "Oh yeah..." Bloom: "What's that supposed to mean?" Sky: "It means I'm a little sick of hearing you crush on the great professor." Bloom: "Crush on him? What is the matter with you?" Sky: "I'm just calling it like I see it." Bloom: "What? OW!" Bloom knocks herself into a column :-D Bloom: "Listen Sky, do me a favor and hang up the phone..." Sky looks teed. Bloom throws her phone across the floor.
Class with NuPalladium: "The key to an effective technical charm is proper pronunciation." Aisha notices Flora crushing on Helia. We see Flora draw flowers next to his name in her notebook. NuPalladium continues with his lecture as Flora has a vision of Helia stopping a monster from attacking her with strings from his glove. (Now why would she know that he even has such equipment when that particular bit was cut out?) She also has a vision of Helia carrying her to the altar. Cute. This vision is interrupted by NuPalladium calling her in class.
And we cut again to a panning shot away from Alfea, as fairy Bloom throws her fire spells at rocks, while Avalon is watching. Bloom: "Just calling it like he sees it right? Crushing on him..." Avalon: "Bloom, what's going on?" Bloom: "Oh, nothing really..." Avalon: "That's not what it looks like." Bloom: "Professor, it's Sky. He's being horrible!" Avalon: "Then perhaps you're better off without him." Just like that huh?
Just like that, we fade out to RF, where shirtless Sky is looking at his phone: "It's still busy." Brandon is lifting weights: "So she's not taking your calls huh?" Bloom on the phone: "Bloom can't come to the phone right now. You may leave the message after the tone, but not if it's you Sky." Sky: "Magic makes voice mail so frustrating!" Sky walks out to the balcony: "Bloom, what is going on with you?" We pan up several levels to Helia's room, where Helia is meditating when he sees that someone has left him a pot of flowers, as we see Flora flying away from RF. Cute.
So things are starting get little crazy story-wise, with a mish-mash of plot points of the original story, plus a minor plothole involving Helia and his glove... I also find it interesting that they're devoting quite a bit of time to Flora's crush on Helia, when none of the other romances have had much focus (except, of course, for Bloom and Sky).
Speaking of Helia, his Nick voice seems to have a bit of 4K Brandon in it... and speaking of voices, now that we actually hear Avalon speaking, his voice seems okay, and same with all the pixies except Flora's. High-pitched works well for Lockette, but not so much for Flora's pixie. (Incidentally, you never hear her name in this special. Really.)
